LMFAO!!!!

I always sleep on my back, and never have sleep problems. Sometimes I have some pretty disturbing dreams, but it's more like entertainment to me. It's almost like a game, where someone's trying to scare me, but they can't.

I am the queen of having nightmares and bad dreams. Usually they are so bad that they actually put me in a bad mood most of the day. I find it's only when I am stressed or have a lot on my mind before I go to sleep.
The most common one which has happened a lot the last couple of months, is seeing an image or a hand of someone's beside my bed. This is usually 15 mins after I have closed my eyes. It's so real and freaky that I actually think someone or a spirit is in my room  :nervous: As I open my eyes the hand or shadow becomes even more apparent in the dark :nervous:
If you have nightmares or bad dreams a lot, I read it's a good idea to replay the last bad dream in your head before you go to sleep the next night. When the bad part happens in the dream mentally picture your own good version of the dream and usually that dream won't continue again. They say bad dreams are just a continuation of the previous bad dream and they always are telling you about something going on in your life that you need to deal with.
Dreams fascinate me

I haven't had night terrors, but while laying on my back trying to fall asleep, rarely I will get that "electric jolt" sensation, it seems, just as I'm about to slip into unconsciousness.

Wierd.

I get those way too often...sometimes even when I'm not sleeping on my back. I'll feel like I'm falling and then my legs will twitch and I'll jump lol

Hahahahah, those are awesome, especially when other people are around. Falling asleep in a chair or something, movie, airplane, get the jolt.

Anyone able to recognize while dreaming that it is in fact a dream and force yourself to wake up? I can sometimes, or at least that's what it feels like to me.

I haven't had a nightmare in a really long time. In fact I can't remember the last dream I had. I used to have really fun and ed up scary dreams.

Oh dreams where have you gone?

But Hilary, if this thread described the exact same dream as Jon had, I would have been sooooo creeped out. Seriously.

I do get those jolts when I fall asleep and it's usually feels like I was falling but nothing in the world beats the jolts that Ray gets. Holy ! It's like the biggest twitches in the world.

I get some pretty intense nightmares every so often. Used to get them alot about 2 years ago where I would dream that my ex (who died) somehow came back to life and came after me. I would usually start thrashing (from what I've been told) and when poor Carlos would try to wake me up by shaking me, that would freak me out even more.

Now I only get the occasional one every so often. My main problem is falling asleep and not 10 mins later waking up wondering where I am. I'm usually so confused that I get really scared for a couple of minutes trying to figure out where exactly I am. I don't know why I get those but it's really annoying and freaky :(

Oh and I get the electric jolts too... but usually it's when I just fell asleep and dreamed I was tripping on something LOL Legs tend to fly out when that happens :stongue:

I get both. One feels like an electric shock going through my body. The other is a limb moving as a result of dreaming (while I'm half awake) of tripping over something.

Sleep paralysis really sucks. For the people who who get it, you should read up on it. There have been some very interesting papers written on the subject.

I've had that happen a couple of times, though not with the sense of impending doom or the inability to breathe that most people seem to get. When it happens to me I'm just acutely aware of the fact that I can't get up and either can't see or can't open my eyes, which was a little scary the first time but now is just very very strange.

Ironically, though, those few episodes of sleep paralysis were a major catalyst for lucid dreams, so it doesn't completely suck. Since sleep paralysis is essentially the same paralysis that happens in REM sleep, it was easier - at least for me - to remember that sensation once it had happened in a waking state and recognize it in my sleep (particularly during a nightmare).

As long as I don't sleep on my back, I won't get nigtmares.

The occasional ones that I do get, I've had before and seem to know what's going to happen next, yet they still freak me out.

The worst one yet...which came back not too long ago: me thinking I'm being possessed...laying in bed (on my back)...i'm awake (or at least I believe I am), for some reason I can't move my arms/legs or anything, nor can I open my mouth to talk no matter how hard I try...then I feel something creeping up at the end of the bed, and it feels like it will just walk onto the bed and crush it (like in Exorcism of Emily Rose)...somehow got enough strength to move my arm and it was all over

interesting.

i do sleep facing the roof most of the time and have had similar nightmares/dreams. being totally paralized and awake, usually nothing happens but i remmember particularly one time when i heard a metallic sound righ next to my right ear.. yuk .. crippy :-) ..
