Any of you guys/gals train any sort of combat sport?
Do you do it out of passion for the art/sport? or just do it for fitness? |

My father used to teach karate, and stopped when I was about five, but taught me a lot throughout my teenage years. It taught me a great deal of focus, being able to almost always determine my opponent's next move, and look at myself from their perspective, forcing myself to move smarter and faster to elude their defense.
Man, I love fighting (not beating people, just the art). I just hated getting in trouble, looking like an idiot, and the risks of getting a broken nose or stabbed/shot calmed me down alot.
All that said, I haven't lost a fight in 15 years, and that time I was jumped by 4 guys I never met who told me I said their car was ugly. This was while I was calling my mom from a gas station next to a McDonalds at 10pm on a Friday night to tell her I would be an hour late. These guys pull up, and I'm like, ", I'd better get off the phone." All of this happened about 3-4 feet around a corner that would have been in perfect sight of my friends who were eating right by the window at Mickey D's.
It's like a ghost inside me. Anytime someone needs a beating (which is rare, because I avoid fighting at all costs), this rages inside me and gets my adrenaline flowing. Then I chill back, focus, and take care of business. It's crazy though, because I black out when I fight.
There was one last summer where a girl walked by me in a club and elbowed me in the stomach because I was apparently in her holy path. I told her "not to in elbow me," and her boyfriend (close to as big as me, maybe 10 lbs heavier) got pretty pissed off. He said, "what the did you say?" I said, "I was talking to your girl." He told me not to talk to his girl, and I told him that "she shouldn't in elbow me."
I remember him pushing me, then my friends said I pushed him back into a door. He swung a couple times and missed, and I cracked him 6 or 7 times in the face, the last one hitting his head back against the door.
The bouncers saw all of it, laughed, and threw him out. They knew me and know I'm not all about that, and took me in the office to chill for a few, then let me back out to hang. I went down by the front door to see the owner, and guy was there, as he had been tossed. He's like, "what happened in there?? You gave me a fat lip" I said, "your girl elbowed me, and you pushed me and threw a couple punches, and paid for it." Then I bought him a shot.
I'm not proud of it, but it sure is satifying seeing yourself perform with such focus and precision. |

I was on the national Shotokan Karate team, we had tournaments in Barbados, Japan and all across Canada. It was a HUGE part of my life:)

| Nobody screws with wrestlers. Once I get you on the ground, there is not much to do on your part. |
