I do think some of the stuff up on TA has gotten a bit out of hand and definitely gone overboard so i'm already agreeing with you here sothis. As Robbie said it should be artistic and a lot of it just ain't.
But since no ones gonna change it's gonna continue and life will go on and the next generation will grow up and argue about the same issues of sexual equality, discrimination and disparity on their direct feed NET jacked directly into their brains neural pathway. I don't even want to think about what TA will look like then LOL
And history repeats itself....... |
Jon! you stud! where the hell have you been anyways??? ... probably havin issues handlin' all the females, eh ;)
:D
and yes kim, you be attractive in my eyes ;)

| now while i dont particularly like sothis's tattoos for their artistic value(too big for my liking) I adore them for their uniqueness. They arent your standard chic fair of a butterfly, or asian symbols..they most likely mean something to you, which is what a tattoo should be about...so on the other hand I love em..I think I told you all this in that piercing thread...oh and in case you are wondering, I talked to a piercer about getting a surface peircing on my arm...they (and you) convinced me out of it. Post pics when your back is done...id like to see the finished work. |

aww thanks guys :) *blush*
ravinglunatic:
yes indeed, hr gigers work is quite amazing. someday id like to visit one of his giger bars, i think theres one in london and switzerland, and there used to be one in japan but i think its gone... the whole thing was wall to ceiling biomechanical ... so amazing. have you seen his furniture?
http://www.hrgiger.com/gegauf/loft.htm
*DROOLS*. yea, i really like his work. as well as anything else... sometimes i like straight mechanical type machinery-artwork more than giger style, just depends on my mood.
j-spot:
im very glad you decided against that! like i had said before, i wish so much those kind of things would actually work :( theres lots of places id like to get pierced, but due to my body (my skin is too tight i guess for lots of the surface ones i find interesting), or just for sheer sensibility (as in, they WILL reject eventually), i dont.
i even might have to take my neck one out soon :( :( its slowly migrating on the right side. *cries*. yea maybe i will post hte finished pics now when im done :) might not be for a few months tho just due to time/money constraints heh |

On the whole over the last year, the amount of threads containing pics of nude / semi nude women has gone down drasticly, 8 months ago and there was like at least 3 threads a week with scantily clad / naked women in them. (Which i should add, also had pics posted by some female members of this board)
I think the odd thread now and then is OK (and i mean now and then and not umpteen a week) and any more than that, i would as a mod, simply close them and go tell them to look at the other thread.
I would also close any that contain sex acts or show too much of the female / male body, after all we do have ppl of all ages visit these forums, quite a lot of them Underage and if that is all they are here for, then they can bog off to one of the many porn sites on the web.
My sig does contain a pic of a sparsely clad female true, but it's there because i admire the female form (and maybe cos i lack imagination enough to produce any other type of sig) and if it is offensive to anyone, tell me and i shall change it.
She is not Nude or showing parts of her body that IMO would cause offence, personally i think a partily clothed woman is more sexier (in picture form) than a naked woman because it leaves elements to the imagination.
sothis: I have 2 veiws on tat's, I like them (i have 2 myself) but like J_Spot, i like them in moderation on male or female bodies.
However I think yours are amazeing :eyes: I mean WOW some of the work that has gone into them is stunning ! !
And of course respect for an individual's choice should be given on these forums, no matter if its the color / style of your hair, wether you are pierced or not, wether u have some form of body art or the clothes that you wear.
This is one of the ways we choose to express ourselves.
And as individuals this is our right (within reason that it does not cause offence to others, EG: a t-shirt claiming black ppl are a subspecies, u get what i mean ? )
Anyway, back to the thread's topic, LOL.
We do have quite a number of female members on the TA Forums.
You got to remember that not all of them choose to post in chill out but contribute on other area's of these boards, like Unknown tracks or music discussion etc.
it's true that the main body of members on this board are male but when u get down to the amount of ppl that post on a regualr basis, i think the gap is a lot less, maybe as much as 1 in 4 members that contribute to the board are female.
I hope that as TA grows we also get more female members on board too and also i hope that they would wish to post in more area's than just chill out.
Arrghhhh i have said more than enough now i think . . .
Peace :)

Sothis, love the tattoos. Must cost alot? I'm fascinated by Giger's works, always has a hint of sexualism in his style. Some are more subtle, others are quite obvious in nature.
Sothis, the alien sex priestess comes to mind! :D I do mean it as a compliment.
I considered tattoos to be quite personal. When I do get one, it'll be a drawing I made of a griffon -- my spirit animal, so the speak. Probably, some other drawings too when I get to it.
Philosophy of Image
...As for topic, the image cult of modern-based societies bombards us everyday, every second. You're either forced to adopt new values as basis for your attraction, or you decide your own *individual* values. The influences are more centralized around impressionable age groups from youths to adulthood.
How much are you willing to consider that our basis of physical attraction [majority] to the opposite sex is perceptually created externally, instead of you actually deciding? Or that external engine [image cults] decides for you, subliminally? When do you realize your basis of decision is not entirely yours at all? Scary, aye?
Let's put it this way: Girls see me as a qt (attractive). So I thought: "Ok, I guess I am." To be honest, I don't really identify myself on the basis of looks. Rather, it's just a role I play to identify with the cuteness. Though, this is internal perspective I haven't elaborated. But it can be like this: Transport me to some forsaken lands of Africa. Pygmies see me, they'll mostly run like friggin scared-sh!tless hyenas from me cuz I'm just ugly! Ahahah..
In short, my physical attraction to the opposite sex is not uniquely identifiable to me -- seemingly transparent to me, its nature and source.
Hope that made sense.

Probably falling into the groups of the most impressionable people today, being a girl, just about 17, and living in today's society, i think its incredible how mainstream pop culture has some kind of influence on our most minimal decisions and concerns. i find myself wanting to basically perfect myself.. #1 because thats just how i am, a perfectionist, and #2, because ideals and images of beautiful people are constantly staring me in the face. maybe that plays are role in why i am so ridiculously picky when it comes down to wanting certain kinds of guys. and if the ideals of our society were different, would i be doing certain things even just for myself? ie: continuing to tone every visible muscle-- comparing my abs to the almost unattainably perfectly defined set of abs and keeping to work towards it..
and this is another thing- even as people tell me i'm beautiful (and every person is in their own way), image-wise, i find it hard to accept. because then again you can do nothing but compare yourself to others just to be sure. some say it sounds like insecurity, but it isnt. i view myself as an average every day looking person.. and i have a hard time accepting what it is that guys are attracted to-wise, because i think everyone sees themselvs from a much different perspective. and so i become somewhat self conscious if i'm thrown into a really judgemental area or situation if dont get that postiive feedback that i've been accustomed to getting over the past few years especially. that's horrible.. also, another thing that really pisses me off-- it's as if guys automatically decide upon judging a girl, "yea i'd her in a second, or not." how does any guy even have the slightest idea of who i am and what i'm all about by judging me on my outside appearance. i'm not some stupid chick just because i may be attractive. then it goes for girls..
so i'm sitting in psychology and we're talking about somatypes, theories of personality and characteristics based upon body types. so we attribute relatively good characteristics to the first two types of bodies, but when we get to the ectomorph, they would just about pounce all the sudden saying "anorexic, stuck up, snobby, slutty, stupid, conceited, think they can get any guy, think they are better than every other person..etc" i almost wanted to cry. what stereotypes thoseare for one. and the thing is, these girls are attractive and have relatively nice bodies themselves, but the thought of anyone thinner, they would almost attack someone. in reality the characteristics of the ectomorphs are: quiet, peaceful, shy, delicate, etc.
Yet, our society is bombarded by certain unrealistic standards.. now all these celebrities are paid to look beautiful, and also, if an average person had a stylist and makeup artist working on them, we could have a million little britney spears' wandering around. not to say she isn't pretty without all the makeup and super stylish clothes, but anyone can look like that if someone was to make them over to a "perfect," "hOT" ideal.
Obviously, it's apparent that it's a huge issue. and most of us are affected by it subconsciously or not. i'm sure some of my points may be countered, but that's just generally what i think.
*sorry for writing so much.. i was in need of some major venting.. |

clubbinbaby...i can relate to what you're saying. even though i have above average looks i still think personality FAR more inmportant than the way someone look. i've met chick who were sooo hot but when i actually talked to them i was so unattracted. and then i've met chick who were pretty average looking but had a good personality and i was really attracted to them.
don't let yourself get too down cause high school sux. |
