Ecstasy Causes Death?

I think I never heard of someone dying from ecstasy. It's not a common occurrence, right?

"RIGAUD, Que. (CP) - A 13-year-old girl who went into a coma after apparently experimenting with the drug ecstasy has died, Quebec provincial police said Tuesday.
The girl, who had been on life support since the incident late last week, died Monday, said police spokesman Marc Butz. Butz would not comment on reports a 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking.
Butz said a judge had imposed a publication ban on information about the case.
Provincial police say the 13-year-old teen from Rigaud, west of Montreal, and a 14-year-old friend were at a sleepover when they went to the home of an older acquaintance to allegedly obtain the drug.
After they returned to the 14-year-old's home, the youngest teen began to feel ill and had trouble breathing.
An ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital, where her condition deteriorated." |

| I've heard it happen before. Usually because of dehydration when someone pops a couple in the club and club water costs $5, they're broke and too effed up to find a faucet much less work it. |

| also, it probably wasn't MDMA that killed her but something else that was in the pill that came from under some random kitchen sink. |

| Impossible to tell from that article, as the info is way too scarce. Afaik, the only way ecstasy can cause death is from overheating, allergic reactions and MDMA reacting with other drugs in the body(such as antidepressants), none of which are common. |

you can OD but it is not very common...
this story was an example of irresponsible journalism, because there are some saying an alergy killed her and not the drug.I believe the autopsy is today, but we probably will never know the results.Chances are that the pill she took also contained methamphetamine.
What cracks me up is that the media jumps on this, but never comments on the 1000's of people who die from alcohol...
i believe this is a witchhunt caused by a slow news day...

The post mortem was done yesterday, no results yet. My guess is that the pill was likely DXM or some drug other then MDMA. MDMA itself is one of the safest drugs available.
Most "ecstacy related deaths" are caused by either dehydration, traumatic injury, or ingestion of something other then MDMA sold as ecstacy. Given that her laboured breathing started far too soon after ingestion of the pill for dehydration to be a viable explenation the smart money is on the pill being something other then MDMA. |

| The real danger with MDMA is that noone really has much of a clue just how big of a neurotoxic impact it has on the brain, if any at all. Why more people aren't researching this pronto is beyond me. |

i have heard of it to somewhere, it most probably is because of dehydration as mentioned before, the person who takes a pill gets so excited about things that they forget to take care of themselfs. |

Yup. It's really sad that she died, but watching this on the news over the last few days (this is all they're talking about now), it's kinda sickening how they all jump on the E word with barely mentioning that;
1- she was 13
2- her pill was probably laced with a number of other more dangerous substances |

dont forget that they do not know for a fact that it even killed her..
the media is assuming everything..
The Montreal Gazette is the thinest ive seen it in awhile today even with the special Turin edition...
this explains the assumptions to me |

Possibly the media jumped on it cuz as Moral says, it is one of the safest drugs available and dying from ecstasy is so uncommon and dying from alcohol is not uncommon so this is a rather newsworthy occurrence? Just because it is atypical?

Maybe she is allergic to MDMA? I am allergic to bee stings and when I am stung, within minutes, I have trouble breathing. |
