POP trance?? (pg. 5)

What's the point? Whatever we post you'll say is crap. It's all relative to tastes.

Here's a bunch I consider to have good vocals:

DT8 - Destination
Andain - Beautiful Things
Andain - Summer Calling

I think I'd define pop trance as trance that has most of it's original features toned down to appeal more to people who normally wouldn't listen to trance. So in that sense vocals would "poppify" (I'm so good at making up words) a track, but other elements might distance it from the pop sound. Often there are more vocals (and they have a more important place in the track), more "in-your-face" kinds of melodies, much less repetitiveness, faster transitions.

If you define it as something popular, then there's no fixed definition of it, because in some parts of the world you'll find it on top 40 radio, and in other parts of the world you'll have to dig in some obscure underground record shop to find it because less than a percent of the population there know the genre even exists.

I have not heard of this one. Provide me with a sample or post lyrics, and I'll make a judgment call.

Andain - Beautiful Things

Funny, that. The first time I heard this song, I actually thought it was pretty decent........up until that annoying bint started singing. The lyrics are average, but that stupid tart can't sing on key and her voice grates all over the production work like sandpaper.

I hate vocalists like that. They absolutely can not sing, so they kind of croon in this little whispery type voice to mask the fact that they have -NO- range whatsoever. You just know that they aren't actually professional vocalists and/or they've had no real training or background in singing and it's doubtful if they've ever done anything else, and they were hired because they're banging the producer or eventually will.

I call this the "Andrew Lloyd Webber Strategy for Music Dorks Who Want to Bang Hot Chicks" (simply tell her you need a female vocalist to sing on your next record), because it worked on Sarah Brightman for 20 years.

Of course, I could be wrong about the girl from Andain (and probably am), but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of the girls on trance records are terribly bad singers.

One of my all-time favourite tracks.

"Hack the planet man!"
The Drow
What?
Andain is an awsome vocalist and she does stay in key with the track.

You want lyrics?

DJ Tiesto - Battleship Grey

It's battleship grey outside
And we dont know what we'll be getting

All your sweet talking, raining over me
'til my nameless games, are all set free

There's a word in your eye,
But I dont know what is to say it
And when you call me from the other side,
A sense of it starts breaking up, and its lies

I don't know, what I'm getting,
But I'm getting something,
I don't know, what I'm getting,
But I'm getting something

It's battleship grey outside,
Confusion, all this is for the gods
Uncertainty, I could be bathing under articial light
Under twilight blue, starts to mesmorize
Untie myself and light up my life
But your soul isn't mine when you cant see in the eyes

'cause I don't know, what I'm getting
But I'm getting something,
I don't know, what I'm getting
But I'm getting something

It's battleship grey
All your sweet talking, raining over me
'til my nameless games, and I'm set free

I don't know if you leaned to analyze poems in school but I did.
This is an amzing song and the production is awsome.

I didn't even know Beautiful Things was considered trance. Sounds like house to me.

Mind, a number of folks seem to think The Launch is trance as well.:stongue:

battleship grey?

My goodness, that's......unique.

This type of imagery reminds me of a Star Trek fan fiction story or something I stumbled upon one time, written by some girl. I you not, this was the opening line of her story:

"The sky was pregnant with storm."

Yeah....pregnant with storm. PREGNANT!!!! I can't remember what the rest of her story was like or even if I got any further than that opening line, because I was laughing too hard. It certainly is one of the most memorable openers I've ever read, but for all the wrong reasons.

It's one thing to know the difference between good didactic imagery and bad didactic imagery in poetry or writing or music lyrics, but quite another to try and explain to the people who aren't well-versed in the arts what's so bad about it. It's understandable that they think its just so creative, but if you ask anyone who's actually been in the industry for any more than ten years, take their word for it: it's. just. plain. bad.

Battleship Grey is actually a colour, rather than just an awful poetic adjective. Sort of a dull, industrial shade, which fits in with the album art at least.

All that aside, it's actually a really good track. But not trance.

...or maybe you just can't do it?

Go on, do tell.

Trance isn't a genere for me.
It's an idiology.
That song has a lot of sentances that I can point on, witch are from my real life.
No song that has been written, has ever made me feel that entranced before.
Oh and Ishkur, you are trying too hard... :p
Oh I have another one, this time it's trance by your definition:

Delerium feat. Nerina Pallot - Truly

I know good things, I know bad as well
Any witness to the world will tell
If there is sorrow, then there is beauty and trust
A secret pearl inside the heart of us...

So truly, if there's light then I want to see it
Now that I know what I am looking for
Truly, if there;s joy then I want to feel it
Here in this world is where I want to be
'Cause I can't cry anymore

And there is magic now, under blood red trees,
All the sky will scream a mystery
And if we're strangers here, from the day we are born
Why be afraid of freedom if it is yours?

So truly, if there's light then I want to see it
Now that I know what I am looking for
Truly, if there;s joy then I want to feel it
Here in this world is where I want to be
'Cause I can't cry anymore

All the world is calling, calling out my name
All the world is saying it won't be the same
All the sky is showing how it;s gonna be
But I'm scared and I'm tired of being like me...

So truly, if there's light then I want to see it
Now that I know what I am looking for
Truly, if there;s joy then I want to feel it
Here in this world is where I want to be
'Cause I can't cry anymore
