| Do they differ from brand to brand? Is it worth dishing out the $$$ for Monster Cables or do they all do the same if I get dollar store cables? |

I'm just wondering if I should dish out $50 for 2 Monster Cables or spend $5-10 for some no name ones (not dollar store) but basic cables from an electronic store...
I dunno  |

I used to work for Monster Cable as a Trainer. The cables really are better. Monster has over 200 patented technologies that no ones else can use.
Also, all Monster Cables come with a LIFETIME Warranty. If your dog chews tgem, they will replace them.
Monster Cables will offered Balanced conducters, where the + lead is the same length and strands as the - lead. Making sure your sound is what is supposed to be. I advise you to pick up cables that have shielding in them, this will reduce EMF and RF interference, keeping your signal clean.
The question isn't are they better, the question is will most people hear the difference. Through my experience, in audio interconnects, not really. In speaker wire, yes. I personally am a fanatic so, the 1 meter cables I used to hook up my CDJ's to the mixer are $100 a pair. Monster Reference 2 series.
The Monster cables are plainly built better than most cables, more rugged, better jackets and better connectors. So, it's up to you. |

I realized that for hooking up to my computer, basic cables are fine, but when I get my CDJ's, I'm def gonna invest in some Monster stuff...
Thanks! |

You would notice a much bigger differance in quality if you used the money you would be wasting on monster cables to upgrade to better equipment (mixer amp or whatever) and then just use standard cables.
I promise you wont be able to tell between the standard cables and the monster cables |

Very cheap cables suck.
They normaly break and or pick up interference when run near other cables.
If your going to have a pro setup where cables need to be realy good. Make your own. Then when you get the chance dont use RCA use xlr or trs. Never use adaptors or two cables connected to make an extension either.
Iv never used monster cables but depending on your situation you may or may not need them. Personally i would never have the need to spend that much. |

Line level cables dont carry much current so the thickness of the cable shouldnt matter too much, of course thicker cables are usually better but assuming the cables are thick enough its going to make negligible difference.
Gold connectors arent always better, some cheap manufacturers dont use pure gold, the impure crap can sometimes be worse rather than beneficial
Heres a good resource that goes through cable "myths"

Yes cables definitely matter... but consider this... on a typical home DJ setup, you generally won't notice the difference between GOOD quality and GREAT quality cables. Where the GREAT cables will really make a huge difference is in a home theatre system with high quality amplifiers and speaker systems... it's here where you might notice some quality loss. That's where Monster cables beat out the competition...
I would suggest spending the extra money on better than average cables for sure... but you don't necessarily need to buy in to the Monster propeganda. Not trying to knock Monster, but they're over priced for the quality a home/bedroom DJ would notice. There are many other brands out there that are more reasonably priced and will work just fine for your home use.
Expect to pay about $30-50 per cable... it's worth it... especially if you upgrade your system down the road...
Also, keep in mind... having some slack in your cable a WISE move! Don't buy a length that's "just enough"... you'll regret it if you ever need to move your gear... and it's usually not much more money to go with a longer version of the cable ;) |

| I use 2 monster TRS cables (1 m) for my Virus b synth output to my soundcard's audio input. I can definatly tell a difference in the defintion of the sound, especially when editing sounds etc, the extra quality goes a long way! I realize this is the DJ forum but my 0.02 on monster. |
