i know i call the courthouse or whatever after 5 days...but how do i find out how much it is? and do i not have to pay it if i take defensive driving? i just haven't gone thru this before, i need some help. |

that'll teach you for being on TA while you're driving.
option 1: go to driving school (which will cost $20), and get it reduced to a parking ticket and only 2 points (you should get 4-5 for going 23 over), and pay $120, with your insurance going up a little when they find out.
option 2: don't go to driving school, pay $150, and get 4-5 points, making your insurance skyrocket.
option 3: dress sexy and cry in court, and tell him your school and work situation. this is your best chance. |

You will have to pay regardless.
Traffic school will keep it off your record (pending a 6 month probationary period) and keep your insurance rates where they are now. Else look forward to hiked up rates! |

In Montreal you can contest a ticket, and then they don't answer you for like 8 months, at which point you can either go to court or just pay the ticket...I'm sure that would buy you enough time to save up the money.
But it's probably not like that in Texas or wherever it was you lived. |

| Yeah, just do the defensive driving. I haven't gotten a ticket before, but I have taken defensive driving to lower my rates. It's roughly $250, but it's a one time deal. I took the version where it's just one day, eight hours, 2 in a classroom, the other six were extensive road tests that kicked my ass for a good portion of the day. I can actually say I felt like a better driver after taking the course as well. |

It really depends from one state to another so you better call the courthouse asap.
Didn't they directly give you a date to appear in court when the ticket was issued? |

This isn't the $250 defensive driving - that's for peopel who want to lowr their insurance.
This defensive driving is for people who get a ticket, and you have to go in order to get your tickets points reduced.
Also, you can call and have your court date adjourned once or twice (ask for a month because of school/vacation or whatever), so you get a couple more months, then a month till driving school, then a month to pay, then get an extension on that, so you can have time to save up the money. |

well I never. My nan got her first ever ticket on a road with no speed signs we were taking my brother to the hospital from school as he'd got a suspected broken ankle & the cop gave her hell, she was doing 47 in what he said was a 40, 2 weeks later signs go up, at 50 :whip: The wanker made her feel like and kept us from taking him for 15 mins as he was so rude. She wanted to reverse over him & flatten him but there were other cars about :( |
