moral's answer is underestimating the intelligence of the guard to hell, not to mention there's no significance in his answer of which guard he is asking.

my point is a simple one; don't start a logic related thread when your initial post is itself devoid of logic.

Well, ok, but the intention was good imo. Then he didn't quite remember the problem and happened to make it a bit easier than it should be... whatever.

Another more physics related problem: :)
Take an hourglass with all the sand in the lower part. Will it be heavier, lighter or same weight when you have turned it and the sand is running?

(By weight I am speaking about downforce due to gravity, not the actual mass.)

Well. In that case. Those sand particles are technically in free-fall. Assuming no air-resistance they would read a weight of zero.

So the falling sand is "lighter" than stationary sand.

Amirite?

I actually have no idea :conf:

That is a factor. But not the only one. ;)

oh, and since it's a three-alternative question, guessing just the right awnser won't be enough. I want a proper motivation.:tongue3

Dammit people, you're only allowed ONE question to either of the guards. Therefore if you ask them what color your shirt is, wonderful you know which guard is a liar, but you still DON'T know which door is the door to hell. There is only one solution to this puzzle which is moral's answer. The thread was over after the 4th post.

"If I asked the other dude which door leads to heaven, what door would he show me?"

if you asks the lying one he will point to his own door cause he knows the truth telling guy would show him the right door.
If ask the truth telling one, he will show you liar's door, cause he knows he will lie.

It doesn't matter which one you ask, cause all you gotta do is go through the opposite door any of them showed you

again, underestimating the intelligence of the guard.

let me make it easier for you to understand:
by all likelihood, this guard knows that you know this, so go figure out what he's gonna do.

in yet other words
the answer forces out a probabilities game.
stren
why are you making this so hard on yourself Derek, its the only right answer

The truth telling guy is assuming that lie telling guy is always lieing.

You are right, only that the thread starter put the lier in front of the hell door, so it would be enough to find out who is lying.
The problem with the guards in the centre of the room would have only one solution as you say, which we discussed after the 4:th post. ;)

Want to give a shot at the hourglass? :)
