Bulking:
Protein = Target Bodyweight x 1.0-1.25 gr
Carbs = Target Bodyweight x 15 - 20% of target bodyweight for every hour of exercise per week.
Fat = Target Bodyweight x 0.4-0.5 gr.
Cutting:
Protein = TBW x 1.25-1.5 gr.
Carbs = TBW x 5-10% of target bodyweight for every hour of exercise per week.
Fat = TBW x 0.4-0.5 gr.
The numbers depend on your level of intensity. If you have high intensity workouts, then you use higher number (e.g. when bulking take 1.25 grams of protein per every pound of your target bodyweight, not 1.0 gram)
Don't forget about the importance of pre and immediately post workout nutrition.
Pre-workout:
Protein = TBW x 0.25 gr
Carbs = TBW x 0.33 gr (complex carbs - low glycimic value)
Immediately after workout (within 20 minutes)
Protein = TBW x 0.25 gr.
Carbs = TBW x 0.5 gr (50% dextrose and 50% maltodextrine) |
It really doesnt have to be this complicated |

Been there done that. Just cut out bread, cheese, and drink nothing but water. Eat otherwise normally, and drink beer. That's what I did.
The fact that I can't play football anymore to keep fit and not really being interested in other sports except those involving internal combustion engines makes me a sad panda, gyms are so not fun compared to the old days :( |

I often have to cut 15 pounds or so for fighting. In the last year I have gone between 177 up to 210. I usually sit around 185-190 and fight at 183.
And I'm not packing on water weight when I bulk either.
yes, when I cut, most of it is water wieght, but I can definatly lose weight fast and gain it by switching my trainning programs around for 2-3 weeks leading up to an event. |

His numbers look good, but you're right, they're overly complex. In the end, it's much easier to use a % ratio than # of grams per lb. With a ratio, you just aim at 40% carb, 40% protein, 20% fat or whatever. And even that you don't NEED. As long as you're eating a LOT, and it consists of good quality foods with tons of protein, you'll gain well. |

I agree. People go through these seemingly structured diet and and exercise programs and for generally lackluster results. Plus it is one thing to lose or gain weight fast but quite another to keep it on or off for the long run. Our bodies are always in a state of homeostasis and a jump like that in weight likely is throwing something else a little off.
If one thing was right or really reliable...everyone would do it. People just have to try alot of things and use what works best for them. This goes for diet, training, recovery, supplements, and in many cases motivation. |

Playing soccer bores me. Can't get into it.
This is my preferred outdoor sport. I miss my old car :(
