well at least Digital Blonde deserves all the hype he can get since he is very underrated. especially considored that he's been in the buisness way before Holden and many others. Still very few knows who he is. |

Now, that is only your opinion, one person. Holden has won over the hearts of many, many, many countless fans. If this Digital Blonde artist was as good and experienced as you say he/she/they is/are, then they would be popular. Maybe not in the sense that Britney Spears is, but certainly very well-known in the world-wide electronic music scene. Now Holden never attempted (still doesn't) to gain popularity or attention (besides what he needs), yet he is universally respected by artists, DJs and listeners alike, and this says something. Many who have been doing this much longer than him have wanted to work with him and have great respect for him (i.e. Sasha). So, give respect where it's due; yes, over-hyping his productions is not necessary, but I have to say, nothing has ever made (DJ Sets and productions alike) has ever dissapointed me. He is a musical genius in my eyes. |

What does it matter that he's been in the business for a longer time? Holden has been way more productive during his time so i guess that's one reason that he's much more wellknown. Because his music is certainly not more accessible than Rikki Smiths, especially not lately since he blurs it with IDM and Techno. Holden is a much more versatile producer, even though i think he's take a step in the wrong direction lately.
Personally i think Digital Blonde is overrated, i base my opinion on the fact that people familiar with him seem to think he's some saviour sent down from heaven. His music is too predictable and simple for my tastes these days, at least.
But i DO reliase his tunes could destroy dancefloors, which i really dont think Holdens new productions could do.. |

Seen Holden live recently? He played Lump live, and his Nazitranceoff remix...and believe me...they ing killed it.

at least Ricki never fell for any trends like Holden did. He's been producing rough trance ever since the beginning. Not incorporating any cheese elements or going for remixing some pop singers.
and the reason that he is seen as a saviour is simple. just look at the trance scene today. all the so called "heroes" Armin, Ferry, Paul van Dyk etc went total crap after they reached stardom.
Ricki stayed true to the original trance sound. |

Some people might think that's a good thing, personally i dont think a producer that always sounds the same is very exciting. And for example Gothica and Electra are rather cheesy, dont you think? Not compared to alot of what is called trance today perhaps, but at the end of the day his tracks are quite formulatic and has a quite accessible sound to it.
I wouldnt exactly call Holden a trendwhore, if that was the case he would produce electroinfluenced house these days and he's not. It's not trendy to incorporate IDM and Techno. If anything Holden has been one of the people who has set the trends. Because of him a whole bunch of producers went producing more minimal stuff. And his remixes of pop singers aren't exactly cheesy either. Now i'm not saying i like this kind of stuff, but thats another thing.

Yes Rikki should have credits for staying true to the original sound in times like these, but surely there are more people doing that. |
