Wow did this get out of control or what.
Anyways, let me justify why I don't like Sven.
In full honesty, not gonna lie, I was bias to begin with because of all you hardcore Sven freaks on here. That being said, I have tried hard to get a liking for Sven, I download all of his newest live sets and I've given his mix comps and what not a listen and to be honest I just DO NOT like his sound. In my full and honest opinion, I think that Sven Vath has stayed popular for so long cause he does what every other DJs do and plays the fads, that's the only explanation for his dodging across the EDM map (through trance, techno, minimal, tech-house, and now electro-tech/house). I really just cannot fall in love with this guy's sound. In that entire 5 hour mix of his recently (Live set from romania) he played one track I thought was good, and not to base my opinion 100% on the tracks a DJ plays (since Sasha plays some of the most unknown but everybody loves him), I just find the flow to his mixes and sets is uhhh... Iffy. His mixing seems good, but that's only a fraction of what makes a DJ in my opinion.
All that being said, I personally believe Sven is bad, you guys can continue worshiping him all you like, BUT, if you want to try to convince someone like me why Sven is so great, try a different approach than: "Durr Sven's been dj'ing for a kabillion years". That absolutely does not impress me, big deal? James Zabiela has been DJ'ing professionaly for how long? A couple years? And the comparisson in talent is impossible to make (plus James Zabiela isn't at all a crackhead, pretty sure he drinks chocolate milk when he spins). I think you guys forget that while DJ'ing and producing EDM is A LOT more technical than some rock star getting up there and singing, EDM artists need NATURAL TALENT also, they need to be in love with music 100% just like any other artist, cant just do it for 30 years and be the best there is, and that's the impression I get from lots of you... "Sven is the best because he's still alive after taking 10+ pills +2 bottles of vodka every night of his life for the past 30 years, and wow just so happens he can DJ too".
All that being said, Sven contributes a lot to EDM and kudos to him for it.

If you can't handle your DJ being bashed, don't post thread after thread of him when clearly a lot of people on here dislike Sven.
Think a lot of you are insecure about your love for Sven, that's why you need to get angry at people like me or Tag or Krinker when we tell you that Sven's a pill popping dinosaur that probably cant even speak anymore.

1) You shouldn't have to 'try' to get a liking for anything EDM related. If you like it, you know right away. It's a feeling, no? As your tastes become more precise with time, you can listen to a track or a mix or whatever and easily pick out discreet elements that might make you go bonkers with happiness or BLEHHHH with disgust. So, don't keep downloading sets from the guy when you have already 'tried' liking his music.
2) It's fine if you don't like his sound. Just don't preach it to everyone. And if you really feel a need to, do it in a alternative way. IE: No more DIE SVEN DIE...
3) Nobobdy is asking you to fall in love with Sven's sound, not even asking you to try to. You say you've heard his stuff and you've said you don't like it. That's fiiinnneee...END IT THERE!
4) I dunno about anyone else but I never try to convince anyone to enjoy a particular DJ and his sound. It seems pretty pointless to me...As I said before, if you like it, you feel it right away.
5) Sven does contribute lots to EDM and thank you for recognizing and appreciating that :) That's what RESPECT for other people's tastes is all about : recognition and appreciation, nothing more than that.
6) I'm telling Tag to shhhhhhhhh for the principle of what he's doing! It's just not cool to bash DJs because YOU personally don't like them. If you don't like them, don't post in appreciation threads that are made for them. Simple enough, no?
7) It's not that I can't handle my DJ being bashed, it's the principle that he is actually being bashed on a forum that I thought had members who were more respectful towards other members' tastes.

What I like is what I like and I won't change it for anyone. It's just tastes, and they vary a lot around here, so...
Why doesn't everyone just respect other peoples' tastes in EDM and not bash DJs? Instead of saying DIE SVEN DIE why not ask, "What is it exactly that makes you go nuts for this DJ?" And if you don't care, then don't say anything! Maybe be a tad more open minded and be willing to learn about different styles of EDM and varying DJs. I know I did. I went from strictly Chicago house to now strictly progressive-electro and I think I've finally found a style of EDM that I love wayyyyyyyyy more than any other I have heard thus far. How did that happen? Certainly not by bashing DJs...
I guess I kinda feel strongly about the issue at hand just because I love EDM so much and because there are so many +1s tied to it. So let's just live and let live...No more arguing, k? :) |

I was actually being serious in both my posts, not just being a douche/dick or whatever, seriously want to convey what TA is to me and a lot of other people.
TA I think is supposed to be relaxed and mindless, sure some good discussions come every now and then but whatever, TA is not meant to be serious.
We all SERIOUSLY love EDM, but that's all we should be serious about I think, not so uptight when someone disses a DJ, they arent dissing you, they're dissing a DJ, none of you know Sven personally, you just like the crap he farts out into his mixers, enough of this "lets all get along, blah blah blah, dont hate on my dj". If he's a DJ, and he's talked about on Trance Addict he's subject to scrutiny.
I'll never go after someone personally on TA, but I will (sometimes seriously sometimes not) question their taste in DJs/genres, and I'm allowed. If I post something stupid like "Sven is a loser", dont answer me, simple as that. |

For the first time in their lives they actually did something intelligent.
I can't believe people are still talking about that half-ed dj who barely knows how to mix anymore. He clearly has no idea what he's doing and don't even get me started. The only time Sven is good is when he get's into his minimal funk, which only happens for the first 20 minutes of his sets and again most of the time it doesn't happen because he way too ed to even understand what a good set is anyway
Stop listening to him you're just encouraging bad music producer to produce even worse music !

K, you're really insulting yourself as well as everyone on this forum for saying that "TA is a place for people to behave like idiots etc..." Sure, we all have our moments BUT I never saw TA as anything remotely close to "behave like an idiot" and I never will. So please, speak for yourself on that one. Thanks.
No, I'm not contradicting myself in my post.
According to me, (maybe I didn't express myself clearly enough in my previous post, sorry), the message I was trying to get across is the following: You can indeed preach your distaste for Sven as much as you want. Just do it in a tasteful and classy way. Again, IE: No more "DIE SVEN DIE". Instead, try an intelligent and constructive crticism of his work. Talk about what you despise of his sets/sounds/albums/etc. That's what these boards are for, no? The sound that makes me go crazy might make you want to barf. That's fine! I ADORE arguing about EDM, anyone who has talked to me outside of these boards knows this. But I like mature (or semi-mature for some of us) discussion about EDM...and the people who contribute to it: that means producers, DJs, club owners, club promoters, event promoters, etc.
Don't go polluting an appreciation thread for a DJ with comments like the ones we have seen thus far. Create your own DIE SVEN DIE thread. I definitely won't post in it unless I have something constructive to say, promise. It's great to disagree about EDM because everyone loves to prove their own point. But the key in keeping these disagreements healthy (that is to say that BOTH opposing parties get something out of the argument) and mature and fun is surely not by outright DJ-bashing.
I aggree to disaggree 1000000000%, just in less idiotic ways than what I have seen so far... |

1) Since when have u been listening to Edm Missy ?? from what i heard your still a virgin to Edm so PALEASE don't go around telling everybody that their taste will improve with time. Stop trying to be missy i know everything and everybody likes me because of that. Get deeper into the sounds you like and stop ing telling everybody what to listen to
2)If you had only one once of intelligence left in your brain( which i doubt anyway ) you'd really listen to a set from sven vath and understand that he's FAR from a good dj and he's also far from having a good tracklisting. Btw how can anyone like a dj that whored himself in every genre possible when those genres were the trend ?? To me someone who has to promote and play music just because it's a trend should be shot !

Listen again MISSY there's something you don't really get here, you have no idea what you're talking about from what i read from you you've been into electronic music for like 6 months and you have yet to find a music that really fits you and that you really like. So you try to listen to everything and like everything that everyone likes because you probably think that it's the way to go but it's not shut the up on this board, listen to music, stop being a whore to what's popular, go back to the classics of every genre and explore. Once this is done, which should take another couple of years, come back and see me and you know what you will probably be out of the "edm" phase and laugh with your friends and say how dumb you were liking Edm that it was just a phase and it was because of some guy.
Oh and i Forgot
I've been in Edm since the early 90's so try and with me for fun !
