Well that's not quite my point of view...
I just wouldn't like it 'cause I feel connected to EDM, somehow, and it would pretty much be ruined if that ever happened.
Everyone running around like this (kinda):
"DUDE CHECK OUT THE NEW PG2 TRACK OMG OMG I HAX DIE JOO OMG" |

Yeah I get what your saying, thats why I was saying I wouldn't want it to turn "teeny-bopperish" and this is what i've seen Tiesto turn into, esp with all the teenagers liking him now I see, when just a few years ago you would say Tiesto and they would be like "what??"... |

Sounds sarcastic, but I never said it shouldn't be popular, just not turn into teeny bopper music, as Cascada is, which is hardly trance, but this is what teens think of as trance. And with Tiesto, i've seen teens get on the Tiesto bandwagon and start worshipping him. EDM shouldn't exclude people, but it shouldn't turn itself into the next N'sync, Britney Spears and their ilk. It should just be popular as what it is, not try to be "pop" music. Being accessible doesn't meaning trying to be something it's not. Plenty of EDM, and trance.. is accessible, with melodies and some good vocals, but i'm not talking about the Cascada, Ian van Dahl, Pulsedriver, Lasgo, Groove Coverage crap. That shouldn't be what people think when it comes to trance or EDM in general. Thats just my view... |

I know yer not like that spirit, and yer right I was being sarcastic.
Just wanted to say that, because I dont like it when people act like EDM should be the excluder's club. People shouldn't feel like they must protect their precious eliteness by making sure that not too many people find out about thier favored music, if they are interested, let them come as they are. I agree that this music should not compromise itself in order to appeal to a pop music audience, but at the same time I disagree that this music should take precautions to hide from the general population because it protects the ego of some kid who thinks he is cool because he likes a less common form of music.
But you've read all of this before so I wont bother going into it again. |

Yeah that's sad, really sad. People think anything is techno, and now that is happening to trance. A girl I talked to on MySpace last fall, she friended me and thought it was cool I liked trance, and then I asked her what her friend trance producers were and she said "Cascada" and "DJ Sammy" and I was like "what the hell?" so I recommended her a bunch of trance stuff I like and I think she stopped talking to me lol. Was just trying to educate the young lady (she was like 18). On the flip side, what also irritates me are the people that think trance is ONLY the really repetitive, hypnotic, pre-98 stuff with no build ups as well. So there are both extremes lol. Trance to me covers a whole wide range of sounds, but it's definitely not Cascada nor DJ Sammy. That stuff is just labeled trance, it's just plain old euro-dance pop music with some cheap "trancey" sounds thrown in, as is done with a lot of euro-dance music. Doesn't mean they are "trance" music. Just my view though.. |
