I couldn't agree more with this. Many a times I have had the cops turn a blind eye to my being stoned. If you don't cause any trouble, or place anyone else in any danger, they really can't be bothered to make a fuss about it and charge you, it takes too much time and causes too much paperwork. And not only that, if it would actually make it in front of a judge, don't you think the judge would throw out the charge anyway. I mean there are much more pressing issues to be dealt with in the courts then proceeding with a charge against someone because they smoked a joint. |

that's only 9 states though...
now someone find a stat for how many people remain in PRISON across the entire U.S. from pot possession in "three strikes, you're out" jurisdictions (and I know there ARE some that apply this to pot possession).
I'd try to find one myself...but I'm too stoned :p |

| Well I don't see anything changing here in Montreal. Most anytime of the day I walk down St Catherine to go to school and always smell marijuana in the air at some point. At night, usually I pass up many people smoking a joint as I walk down the street. |

No new news here. The Liberals waited too long, and we all knew once the CPC was elected that any chance of lightening the pot laws would be put on hold. I'll just do what I've done for the last 6 years... not get caught. You have to be pretty stupid to be busted with weed on you anyway, there are 2 times that I have more than the joint I rolled on me outside my house, after a grab, and never.
Police still don't give a unless you're causing trouble, and if memory serves me correctly, it was a judge that said that Canada doesn't have a good enough law in place to actually convict people for possession of small ammounts of marijuana (which is what triggered the decriminalization thing in the first place in recent years), so a lot of judges dismiss simple possession cases. |

i highly doubt the liberals would have ever put that legislation through.
It would have seriously hampered cross border relations, which are important to canada, and the argument about trade interuptions, i think , is valid.
but think of it this way. the liberals introduce the bill, and all of a sudden a lot of young people will listen up and go "hey, theryre gonna make that legal - i'm gonna vote liberal"
i think its a pretty good way to get young people who might not either care, or vote NDP, to think of voting liberal. |
