It was Sona, then Stereo and then Aria coming in last if I remember correctly...
Sona closed, the hoards split between Aria and Stereo! Then Sona V2 opened! The HipHop room was the best room, no doubt. The house room had maybe one good night, with the waterfall seperating the VIP's from the rest of the people! The problem, it didn't feel like VIP, so the scenesters did not catch onto it like the old Sona.
The old Sona had that, sectional thing going on. As is with every afterhours, this is where I first experienced it. The real scenesters were always in theirs, while the rest made their own spaces. I'm not sure if you can understand what I mean, but its over now.
In regards to the bookings, our DJs were top notch back then. There was NO need for international talent. The pioneers of the afterhour scene here in Montreal did a great deal of good to this city! Some are still at it...

But the original Sona was my first party outside of raves and such so let me have my memories before i am old and decrepid.:toothless
Good or Bad, alot of people that arent even clubbing anymore had their best times there.

sona was awesome. It was the hottest ticket in town, music was insane. clubberinmtl ur right about the locals, my favorite nights @ sona were a night where Luc Raymond played an extended set and also one of the Max Graham nights. I was so young, i was like 17 i think. i was into only hip hop until i stepped in that place. changed me musically completely. It was just so damn dark and dirty. it had that smell, a mix of weed, vicks & sweat, it was dirty but sick at the same time, its hard to explain. i was too young to fully appreciate it. Guestlist was IMPOSSIBLE to get i remember. The bouncers were s sometimes, but then my cuz ended being tight with one of them so we had a free ride after that :).
Still like ARIA better tho :D |

i remember smoking my first dubbie at sona downstairs next to the sink with my friend and his older cousin and his friends. luc raymond extended set. you would walk out and see all that in fog in the winter. twas hype. i even had "my" speaker where i would chill or dance on everytime i went
i remember getting the reduced tickets
sona was house for me. its where i felt house for the first time.
that dirty feel, that bar, those beats. so dirty
i remember sona closed down on march 29th 2004
and the pepsi forum, well yeah, wont even talk about that
i remember going back to the parking lot in like sept 2004 and still seeing cracked glowstick in the corners.
