The things is Marcus, you just can't understand Sona if you strip it down to dj booth or set-up or things like that. THAT's what made it successfull.

Fact is, the place was dark, not clean at all and the sound, booth, lighting were nothing compare to aria or stereo....

But what was so great about it, is that I remember having cramps in the stomach because i was so excited, going down those stairs... it was so dark, and underground. The thrill was that you were part of a mouvement, you were part of something different... having massive fun with a lot of people, while feeling at the same time you were doing something wrong. You were in for a ride, and you didn't know what to expect, who you are going to meet, or at what time it was going to end. (well, mostly 10 am, but you know what I mean)

Just the name Sona brought fear to those who didn't know what it was, thinking it was a real hard gay sona where everybody was fckn lol First time, I was actually scared.

It was a big party, and people were partying HARD. And most of us were there every week. Sona, is about the people, an era, not about the place.

It wasn't about the DJ neither. People didn't stand facing the dj and expect a show. The music made one with a vibe, it didn't matter so much who was playing, cause it was always pretty good. That's where I also understood that the music was about telling a story, and a feeling that 2 or 3 DJs were able to keep and understand all night long. DOn't know why, but today I don't see as much coherence between what dj plays... maybe because they all played the same thing back then, maybe because today it's not possible to play the same stuff for 10 hours... I don't know.

Dj Booth in the first years was hard to find or to see, which I also liked a lot... because the music was coming from nowhere, it was just there (no I am not on drugs)

I'm a sona child, everything started there for me. That's why even if my style is changing over the years, it's always very dark. Fell in love with darkness there. That is what underground music means to me.

I am VERY grateful that I had the chance to play there once before it closed down.

* This is not about how it was better, but different. I still think that music, quality of sound, and quality of clubs is far better today.

dont u think its the same thing with aria now ??
when i walk down those stairs at aria i have this weird feeling of excitement and fear of ''what im gonna do that night'' LOOOOL !!
Ravemontreal
Well, of course you will understand that I see Aria in a total different point of view, since I work there as a dj. So I don't feel like a client... I sure hope you feel excited when you go down those stairs, and I just do my best to re-create the so good feeling of partying for those in front of me ;-)

Aria and Sona are just both so different in every ways.
