Why do all clubs in Boston close at 2am? (pg. 2)

i think the 2am end-time is linked to old-school puritanical laws; providence is the same way.
boston is an outstanding city; while there's def. a lot of douchebaggery taking place at clubs and bars, the city itself and most bostonians are super cool. :) |

At least someone likes us :toothless
And riotswise.. Ummm those are ALWAYS linked to the Red-Sox... occasionally, there's stuff when the Patriots win too... but basically, those are almost unrelated to closing time... Riots don't really happen in Boston so to basically reiterate what everyone else already said, that's a dumb generalization if I've ever seen one... |

i was waiting for that lol...no i don't look to any reason to put down boston. i've visited a few times, i have plenty of friends who go there. maybe its because boston has a more centralized region of colleges which creates this infestation of debauchery and immature acts. what i don't understand is how alot of the college kids there have so much money, it sickens me. And girls, girls get the best of it. My girl friends up there say they have a great time and don't spend any money when they go out, to me that's misleading and can lead to bad situations. It wouldn't be if it wasn't bred that way. Maybe the fact that people have such an easy life disturbs me. Maybe it's because I like many others, had to bleed their way to where we are now. I'm not saying I'm poor, actually I think I rather well of, but to see how the money is so indespensible there is what really drives my anger. I've witnessed first hand kids who are under 21 driving the latest n greatest M3's. Not that I'm envious of the material thing, just angry at the waste of money or how easy it would be to get what you want at whatever age you are.
Now this is way off topic from the bars/clubs closing at 2am. So i'll bring it back ontopic, the riot comment is true, so when the sox won the world series, did everyone not resort to marching the streets? when the yankees won the world series no one was marching the streets. When florida/az won the world series they didn't hit the streets right after. I wonder why having such a strict liquor license only leads to an equal or more amount of chaos. You end up getting hammered quicker thus it being early in the night without having anything to do kinda leads me to the assumption that this is something that happens more often.
I give credit to Rise for the establishment but am not a fan of the whole "membership" thing. Although in some cases yes a membership works for like minded individuals, but when it becomes an ultra exclusive venue, i begin to look at that establishment as a red-rope affair... |

generalizations are made by example, the only way to stop them is to not make an example of one... |

First off there's no way you're not just a bitter yankees fan and there wouldn't have been any riots at all if your team didn't choke 4 games in a row in 2004 ;). Boston waited 86 years for a world series so it was kind of a big deal. If you wanna claim Rise is a red rope affair you obviously haven't been there. Anyone who's been there knows that's not the case. They have it members only with easily accessible guest passes. They even hand them out at virgin records with purchases and satellite records when you buy records...... they make it very easy to get inside. They LEGALLY have to be members only to stay open with the city of Boston. Rise actually fought in court to stay open because Boston is VERY anti- afterhours and that was part of the reason sunrise closed. |

kidnyce - relax.
i went to school in boston and i lived there until last september. not everyone there is loaded. the reason there are a lot of people there with money is because it's a fun and expensive city and has a big international scene. people with money are drawn to go to school there because they see it as the perfect place to party it up. that said, there are a lot of normal college students who work at pizza places and do just about anything else to get by... like working two jobs and such. boston's bills are not easy to pay, but then again, a 1500 one br would be 2500 in manhattan. the same types of rich kids are also drawn to manhattan. you just don't notice them because there are a trillion people richer flashing their around anyway.... and there is no high concentration of college kids.
the mix of people and incomes has the full range.
don't compare the yankees winning to the red sox winning... we all know there was a huge history there, and what you don't realize is that the red sox and sports in general are like the blood that runs through the veins of new england. it is their pride, joy and love and involves everything and everyone in their lives. that's just how important it is to them.
the fact that drunk bastards - just like those that vandalized my car near northeastern university - like to take the excuse and go break some , has nothing to do with that culture. it has to do with how many drunken college s exist in such a small place. and this is at a normal ratio of college s to cool college kids.
i think you're seeing what's obvious to you as a new yorker... i'm telling you what living in, understanding and loving boston teaches you. |

As for the liquor license, yea it's not such a great thing closing at 2AM. From my observations, the time restraint encourages kids to drink faster, earlier, and get hammered quicker with an early evening upon them. I don't think closing the bar at 2 is really the greatest thing. If anything it allows people to have more of a night while being much more drunk from drinking heavily in a small period of time.
In philly I witnessed the same thing, the bar closed at 3 promptly and there seem to be a huge rush at the bar from 1-3. Alot of people get drunk quicker, not that I'm complaining or anything, just that the establishment stayed open until 6. Gives the patrons at 3 hour-time-to-get-sober period |

Sounds good UMES, I'm off it, and I'll be visitng my friends in boston like I've done in the past. I just don't appreciate people saying how i'm a bitter fan of whatever sport it is. You're saying I'm making a generalization yet you've generalized my opinion. Alot of hypocritical statements overall....
Anyways I'm off the whole subject and I'll still root for my yankees, win lose or draw.
|
i don't root for any of the teams so i'm totally out of the sports accusations. it just seemed as though you were really turned off because of a couple things you noticed... i just wanted to let you know what i learned over the course of years to maybe help you get past negative things. i just like boston very much so i interjected, no intention to generalize... and i like new york a lot too :) |
