BTW. Sorry to interject, but... did you know that in LA (that's right, LA), all clubs and bars must also stop serving alcohol by 2? I just found this out.
Incredible. The US is really behind the times.
In some godforsaken village somewhere in Holland or Estonia or Bulgaria, clubs stay open and serve alcohol till 5-6 and there are no restrictions on alcohol to speak of. |
It's not only the US. I believe UK bars had the same 2AM deal up until a few weeks ago. I do agree that it is ridiculous though... |

well, the US, UK, Australia and Canada have pretty much the same culture (give or take a few minor points)
So these restrictive attitudes are indeed observed not only in the US but also in the other English-speaking countries.
My post referred to continental Europe. |

& rise is a prety crappy excuse for a club... Maybe they will realize if they had a decent afterhours place that it would attract more decent people & djs... But probably not. |

Don't mind Lee, he's just pissed he can't see PVD every single week. Sorry Lee, you can't lick his balls in the DJ booth this time. RISE is not your typical club, the owners preach EDM music and they've had some big name DJs come spin. It's more of an intimate setting, not your typical big martket establishment.
Boston is a wonderful city. Great young college crowd and of course, the redsox. A lot of tradition here and the opportunity for post-grad work is excellent.
I dated a girl for a while who lived in New York, although it's a fun city to visit, I would never live there. I personally think NYC is mad grimmy but hey, to each there own.
It's a pretty lame generalization to think that ALL college kids from Boston are rich, or their families come from wealth. I worked my ass off to pay my way through college. Majority of kids take out loans, and that's just not in Boston. I'm sure not a lot of people can pay $30-$40k per year for 4 years or more.
They have 2am curfew here for a reason. Just look at all the tabloids surrounding nyc clubs, it all revolves around drugs. Don't get me wrong, i've had some of the best times clubbing in nyc all cracked-out but it's an obvious problem that the city is trying to address. Some of you may see it as a blessing that NYC clubs are open so late but whether you admit it or not, it's not always a good thing when the youth of NY are out till 7am getting ed up. |

| i think the 2am law here in boston has more to do with the city's long existing "blue laws" carried over from england after the revolution that have been on the books for over a century - not so much the presence of the universities. also, rise is able to stay open past 2am because its a private club - no public club would be able to stay open past 2am, even if they wernt serving liquor. in alot of ways, boston is a very small city - which makes it both enjoyable and annoying in different ways. :) its useless to compare it to nyc in any way... its like comparing apples to oranges. |

| The UK definitely doesnt have the same 2AM deal. Well at least that's not the case in London. I have definitely stumbled out of a club at 5am in London with the bartenders still serving...and a lot longer ago than a few weeks. |
