Why do psy/prog albums receive always positive reviews on TA?

seriously, who have noticed this besides me? are progressive and psy albums/compilation really that good or is it because members want to hype this genres, because most people are into trance here on TA? or why?

if I read the comments on trance albums, for example a state of trance 2006, in search of sunrise 5 or other trance albums people give always positive and negative reviews, what isn't surprising to me at all.

but it seems that progressive and psy albums/compilations get mostly positive reviews here.

do they really deserve such reviews or am I completely wrong with my statement?

I don't know. Personally I think that most psy is boring e, too obsessed with its own credibility to ever do anything new or interesting. It's the ultimate chin-stroker sub-genre in trance though. Might be why.

As someone who's been into the scene for a very long time, I, along with many other people have grown weary of some of the stuff being released these days. Not hating electronic music totally, I've searched & yearned for something that doesn't sound dated, boring, or like it was made in 5 minutes. Certain parts of the Psy&Progressive genre do this, they give me something to listen to that's new, fun, and not about 4 superstar dj's. I like that. The simple reason for the better reviews is that a lot of this site think like I do, and want something unique to listen to. This reflects in our reviews yes, but if you actually listen to many of the tracks, they blow the 'standard' prog/trance of today out of the water.

I'd like to agree with Ian here.
Started writing my own reply for about 3 times but I'm stuck

http://www.psyreviews.com/reviews/index.htm might be a nice recommendation if you think there's too much positiveness about psy albums here

Are you talking about psy trance as a whole? I mean there's quite a few different kinds of psy trance.. from 'full on' to the 'progressive' stuff

I mean look at Ticon's "Zero Six After" album for instance, it's barely "psy" trance if you listen to it, although released on a prog psy label and distributed in the psy scene. The only big name DJ I've seen pick this up is Jody Wisternoff who played the last track of this album in one of his mixes.
It's quite innovative and fresh imo, and miles better than most trance albums

Well I've only heard "pure" psy as it were.
DJ_Massive
I'm guessing that's the full-on 145+ bpm stuff
I'd probably have the same opinion if I only heard that kind of psy. It's not the most innovative kind usually.

Yep , maybe if there were threads about the usual full-on psy releases, you might read negative comments about these.

And I agree with Ian

Nah. I've heard full-on as well. I haven't heard prog or ambient psy or any of that though. At one time of day psy was just a sub-genre, now it seems like it's becoming a whole genre of its own.

most progressive albums (i won't talk about psy, since i'm not really a fan of that genre) are well put together. they have tracks that aren't played out for a year and are creative in the mixing choices. very few trance albums these days are actually like that. are their progressive albums i don't like? yeah.

Careful with the blanket descriptions there Jason... The different definitions of "progressive" people on TA have could perhaps disqualify that statement rather quickly. ;)
