Right, I guess I should rant...

My work is being run by dumbasses. They continue to cut-back our hours (I went from 25 to 8 during school), and this week I work seven hours, but it's state law to work four hours so I get paid for an hour I wont be working.

Yet, through all of this, they have tons of signs and tables set-up looking for new employees. Who, in their honest ing mind, looks at a business and says, "Business is slow, so we need to cut-back on hours, so lets cut-back on our current employee hours and hire more!" :wtf:

I've been getting paychecks that only have $50-80 on them. How the is someone supposed to pay for school, gas, half of their car insurance, their own clothes, haircuts, and have enough left over for extracurricular expenses?

On the plus-side, we got two new higher-ups in while I was on vacation, and apparently they're hella badass.

But . Hopefully when summer rolls around I can put in 40 hours again. :whip:

two biggest things should be #1 realize hes a person, and probably someone that if you met them anywhere else, you wouldnt respect. Which im sure you know, but too many times people think managers and bosses are somehow demigods. Think about what you having going for the rest of your life, and where his will end up/has he probably already topped out and it wont ever be this good again? Right, hes nothing.

#2 Dont go in looking for a confrontation. Or you can be guaranteed to have one. Right now you are legitimately confused. Have that be the focus of the conversation. Tell him you need to have about 30 minutes of his time, on site, to talk to him about some business. Sit down and start asking question. "When you said that the company would pay for my medical expenses in the meantime what did you mean by that?" "How does this 'loan' fit in with that?"

et cetera. If you are going in there to get questions answered...keep asking questions. If he gets upset, say you dont understand why hes upset, youre even more confused than you were a minute ago. Playing stupid not only makes people answer with more information than they wanted to, but after a series of entrapping questions gives them a wary respect for you.

Be genuine though, the best attacks are done under the guise of complete honesty. You must convince yourself your goal is to get certain questions anwered. If you get all the answers, you win. and then you can find a new job or not, but at least not before asking " i cant find a job, maybe I should have just asked HR to get my COBRA through :s"

I dunno. I just see a lot of people, and youll like this - especially women, lose face in the business world because they wont confront bosses. They take hit after hit and never demand what they are worth.

Im sure there is more to it, there always is, but at some point you have to think of yourself as worth more than your job or your salary on a more principled level.

Quitting lets him win, sucking it up lets him win. Making him respond to your questions for a 30 minute grilling session....that is pankcakes. Pure syrup covered pancakes.

Ah well im rambling...thats what early mornings are for I guess.

no you're right. it's just weird for me to get all professional now because we're like family. it's just 2 attorneys and me and another secretary and we all get along and stuff. i pick up his kids, etc...his wife died a few years ago, so i feel bad for his daughters and i sort of act like a mentor to them (quit laughing everyone).

i agree about losing face. the thing is, i have been talking myself into staying here because i have great hours and everyone is cool about taking time off, etc...it's actually a great job. but every now and then he'll do something like this to piss me off.

i just moved to miami beach and i'm still working in ft.lauderdale. i think it's time to bite the bullet and find a new job. i was putting it off because that's stressful.

if i stay here, i'd have to bug him for insurance and a raise and i doubt i'll be happy with either you know? i know when i leave here he'll be very upset and ask me why. i'll tell him then and if he asks why i didn't confront him, i'll just tell him it wasn't worth it and that i got too good of an offer, which i'm sure i will. i was just looking at monster.com and i already saw 4 jobs i'm easily qualified for and they are offering 8k more a year to start:wtf: yea, i think it's best i move on.

i appreciate your advice though and i'll keep it in mind for my next job. my problem is that i get too chummy with my bosses...i've always had cool bosses and babysat for them and joked around all the time. i think i'd rather work in a bigger firm where professionalism is a must.

Alright, I am feeling better today.

I have the meeting with that group in a little over an hour. One person already made an excuse that she has a doctors appt. (on a national holiday:rolleyes: ,) and that she can't make it.

I'm a little pissed by that, but it is beautiful outside, and it is my last day off until I have to go back and deal with the load of at school.

So... I will fricken enjoy today if it kills me!!!

P.S. I think I am seriously PMS'ing too. A little early, but I suppose better early than never.

I know it seems weird to do tough love sessions with good friends, but its usually wildly appreciated. I respect criticism from friends and family much more than from others, and I know they have good motivation for telling me - it isnt out of spite or cruelty. If you sit down and say "Hey, heres whats on my mind. I should have talked to you earlier but I just needed to work it out first. *fill in what youve been thinking*. I realized that I need stability in my life. I have been more stressed out than I ought to be and the cause is the uncertainty. I need the insurance. I need the security. What can we do to make the situation a workable one?"

and then if it goes down hill you can hand in your two weeks right there and say its been wonderful and thank you for helping me out when I needed a job and giving me an opportunity to get a grasp on things and have a good life hehe.

edit: although it already sounds like you want to quit. Might as well have insurance and what not while you try to find a new one. Will give you the buffer to be able to research companies and do a thorough job search before handing in the resignation

Are the classes total bs like "Which of these two pictures is more home feeling the one with satan or the one with bumblebees nose rubbing flower bears"

do they get into psychology and studies and what not? Is there science or just a bunch of trying to make you be able to verbalize instinct and emotion.
