Hello TranceAddict boards. In the new release of one of the top Dj's in the world, I'd like to voice my opinion and feedback onto you all and hopefully give you some personal insight before you actually give this Mix a crack for your money.
Tiesto
In Search Of Sunrise 5: Raypoo's Review
I've heard and read minimal reviews on this one, it being so new. Regardless, heres my take on this new mix.
The tracklist was good because it encompassed alot of fresh and new tracks. So fresh that Tiesto had signed many of them previously to release them on this mix. The problem is, and maybe its me, or maybe, just maybe, its the speed of tracks getting shared on the internet so easily and fast, that I've heard about 85% of all these tracks, introduced on the mix. That's not nessicarily a bad thing, but it just leaves out the mystery in alot of parts.
Let me say though, alot of the track selections by tiesto was presistant. 'In search of sunrise : los angeles' truly gives off the vibe of the summer, sunsets, beaches, and relaxation. Most of all the tracks I listened to were coming together very nicely and was presistant. The mix did a well enough job to make me reflect back on the summer nights when I used to live in New Jersey, walking on the boardwalk with my parents, looking at all the casino lights while feeling the breezy winds off the shore of the beach. It was relaxing and smooth.
The tracks may be great, but to point out the con of it all, they all sounded too alike. Same minimal vocals with soft synths, building up to an amazing melodic and euphoric breakdown, in the middle of the song. Than once again, slowly yet surely, building up to the beat, hitting the chorus, than the bass will fade out as to make a transition onto the next song, very easy.
Speaking of transitions. I didn't notice many amazing ones here. The cueing was pretty good and EQ'ing was profitable (specially on the first CD), but the transitions in general was very generic and boring. It was everything you could expect a bedroom DJ to be doing, nothing stood out. And it seemed like the tracks itself had more spice and excitement than the 'mixing' itself.
If i had to pick a more enjoyable CD out of the two. I would say CD1 was more up to my liking. The transitions were a bit better as well. But simply the tracklist was more fun and enjoyable, whereas CD2 tracks were too similar as stated above. This mix has alot of house music flavour tied with trance elements, you'll have to hear it to understand it. Oh and yeah, Prog, yummy proggresive. :P
I'd like to say I enjoyed this album just as much as the previous (ISOS4), but than I'm be brutally lying. Don't get me wrong, its a great peice of work, but just a bit too predictable, in which ultimately equals, too focking boring. But i'd like to defend Tiesto (now being moved down on the DJ rankings), that as these producers and DJ's keep on mixing and producing, our hopes and expectations become higher for them, in which this is not entirely fair on the artist themselves.
All and all, Mr.Tiesto, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and rate your new mixed inspiration a, 7.5/10.

Wow, this will be the first album I pick up in a while just because I've been so lazy with the whole scene... (and poor).
Is the mixing any better than it was on ISOS4? I thought that album just had absolute trash transitions and EQing. |
