Nah, but I sure won't be so naive to drive with a burned out headlight and not assume I can't get a ticket, as well as not changing my address when I move, then be surpised when it does happen.

It's in the penal code, so you have been told about it. That's your notice, and it's stated as such. At least it is in the states, so if it isn't in Canada, thne you have a right to bitch. However, since you didn't make light that it isn't, I'm sure you've never made it a point to read the Vehicle & Traffic Code. |

I think it was already stated that he wasn't aware he had a burnt out light which was the "real" reason he was being pulled over to begin with.

Go get your light fixed and head to the police reporting center. You have 48hrs to get your light changed and the ticket will be shredded without issue (dealt with this about 2 months ago with the same end result).
As for the licence change, you are responsible to change your licence when you move. He may have been an about it, and you may have gotten away with it previously, but that's the law. Sucks, but unfortunately we have to abide by it or face the consequences which you apparently ended up with ($110?). |

Ahhh, well, I forgot about that already :thepirate
But in this case, I'd chalk it up to being equal to a warning, since you can get it thrown out. Sure, it will take more time out of your schedule, but anything less than a guaranteed fine is acceptable.
I try to check my lights every week or two, but I know when I can't that I'm playing with fire. Especially when I could be coming home after having a couple drinks while still under the legal limit, and a broken light could mean City for me. |

He comes back and hands me 2 tickets totalling $220... one for my light and one for my license. He says I can take them to court and if I have a receipt for a new light and a new licence they'll get thrown out. I looked at the guy and laughed in his face because of how pathetic he is. Then said, "Are we done here?" and took off.
Lesson learned people. Make sure you have every I dotted and t crossed because in spite of all the crime here, cops in this city have nothing better to do with their time than pull people over for a burnt out headlight. |
ive never even had such bad luck with police.
ive been pulled over doing 170 on the 407 and been let off.
ive been pulled over immediately after leaving a bar, did a breathalyzer, popped the hood of my car and they saw mods. asked me if my insurance knew about my engine swap and i said no. they said my insurance would cancel me if they reported that my car was modified for racing. they also told me that my windshield banner was illegal but it was too low. also told me that my headlights were illegal. also told me my exhaust was illegal. but i got let off with nothing.
i was polite and courteous with them the whole time. not too polite because then it looks fake. |

Shanny not only are you lucky you didn't get hundreds of dollars of tickets for that, but I'm going to assume you didn't have a helmet; which is punishable by death from castration and subsequent blood loss. It's the law you know.

I guess this is a bit different but now I'm curious. I've left my address as my parent's address all through university despite living on my own in Hamilton. However, I don't plan on staying in Hamilton and will probably move home for at least a bit when school is said and done. I can leave my address there, can I not? All my mail is sent there anyways... |
