I guess this is a bit different but now I'm curious. I've left my address as my parent's address all through university despite living on my own in Hamilton. However, I don't plan on staying in Hamilton and will probably move home for at least a bit when school is said and done. I can leave my address there, can I not? All my mail is sent there anyways...

well, you don't necessarily have to tell them you've moved. just be wary if you're 50 miles from the address and you say you're "just going home".

Same situation. I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't know this.

That's it Laura, I'm buying you a shiny copy of the highway traffic act and you can keep in beside the can at home for a good toilet read. I hear it moves quicker once you get past the first couple of chapters.

if you get pulled over just them you still live there and that is your primary address.

I did the same thing all the way through university. As long as you don't tell them you live anywhere else and you can still get mail at that address, while not 100% legal, is an issue you will never get caught on.

I was on my way home last night at about 10 o'clock and was sitting at the lights on Broadview and Danforth. Not a drop to drink, wasn't speeding, totally minding my own business.

Some cop pulls up beside me and motions me to pull over after the light turns green. I rolled down my window and asked if something was wrong and he says "Umm, yeah... your front light is out." Give me a ing break.

So he pulls me over, tells me my front passenger side light is out. "Oops, I'll have to get that fixed," I tell him. After showing him my license and registration he begins drilling me with questions like, is this my current address, when did I move here, etc. I told him that I moved a couple of months ago and respectfully asked him if there was a reason why he was asking me.
"Of coarse there is," he says in an arrogant tone. "You need to get your license changed when you move." (which I didn't know was really necessary.

He goes back to his car, takes 20 minutes, another cop car pulled over and he shot the with them for a bit, saw him staring out the window as well. He comes back and hands me 2 tickets totalling $220... one for my light and one for my license. He says I can take them to court and if I have a receipt for a new light and a new licence they'll get thrown out. I looked at the guy and laughed in his face because of how pathetic he is. Then said, "Are we done here?" and took off.

Lesson learned people. Make sure you have every I dotted and t crossed because in spite of all the crime here, cops in this city have nothing better to do with their time than pull people over for a burnt out headlight.

wow apparently trancaddict is full of do gooders and people living completly legal lives....fyi everytime you see someone doing drugs at guvernment and decide to do nothing, you could be implicated....that being said Dennis....there is some hope you....

1) Book your courtdates - request a meeting with a JP of Justice of the peace
2) get all your books up, take whatever pictures you need to prove your case
3) go to your meeting witj the JP, which will be sooner than you think
when you are there with all your infor, YOU WILL WIN.

I DID, I go two BS tickets, one for having a license which was determined to be unreadable and one for not signing my ownership with pen/ink.

I won both, JP's respect people and respect the proper use of the law, cops do not....giving out tickets becomes an expectation of their job, and they remove themselves from the reality that it ruins peoples days when they are given tickets for thing they dont even (often) know they are doing wrong.

you'll win man, get your books up and immediatl;ey book a date with a justice of the peace....GOOD LUCK!

Yeah...I've moved so much in the past 6-7 years that my parents' address had been my mailing address the entire time.

lol, seriously?!

That's crazy. I would have had to change my address like 3 times according to this rule. Have you seen the lineups at the Ministry? Ewwwww.

My police officer friend informs me that your tickets will get thrown out if you fight them, Dennis.

I love having a cop friend, there are so many loopholes out there...

Thanks very much for the info guys, most helpful! :)

I'll be doing just that. The cop even said himself how I can get out of the tickets and admitted, "It's a big game but you have to play it."

At least the big man but the rubber gloves was somewhat gentle :tongue2

lol
its not my fault that the ministry issued me blank plates.
their reason is because cops pull me over so often that it saves them time to leave that section blank on the ticket.
