So tom cruise and katie holmes had their baby. i ws reading on another message board about the scientology practice of when the child is born they take it away from the mother for the first seven days and that no one talks to the baby. also birth is supposed to be silent, meaning no screaming during labour. also no medical testing for the baby for 7 days either as birth is tramatic enough for them.
isnt not talking to the baby and taking the baby away from the mother for the first 7 days extremely psychologically damaging to the baby?
this scientology stuff is just sort of wierd. |

I agree. I think it is particularly important for both mother and child as a lot of bonding occurs in the first few days after birth.
I think any dogmatic belief in literal interpretation of scripture or organised religion in general is quite creepy, but Scientology in particular is so obviously a scam that it simply freaks me out that there are so many people stupid and/or naive enough to follow it. The phenomenal success of the Church of Scientology is a condemnation of the supposed intelligence of the human race. |

babies should be with their mothers after birth.
common sense. |

I have done a lot of study on child psychology, and they always drive home that the first 5 years of a childs life is phenomenally important, and it is extremely detrimental to the child to be seperated from the mother.
My brother is a perfect example. The first 3 months of his life my mother was in recovery and never saw him. They have a very shoddy relationship now unfortunately. |

It is. I'm in psychology right now and our last unit was on newborns. If they don't have that social interaction they become like recluses and don't know how to properly intereact with other kids in school. |

That's weird. I've been with my mother for a very long time and I have a very shoddy relationship too. |

i was reading something before about how scientology is like a cult. people join cults when they are having major problems etc. - they want to belong. but they probably have a dysfunctional family life before joining and most certainly after joining the cult.
so what i read before says this:
"Home births also accommodate the Scientology's "silent birth" rules about not talking to a newborn baby for a period of one week. While Scientology teaches that this reduces the trauma associated with a baby's birth, this is actually another method to destroy family bonds. (See discussions in the texts by Drs. Margaret Singer and Michael Langone and by Steve Hassen sited above. Family bonds are deliberately weakened and destroyed in cults because members are supposed to support the cult above all else. A common cult ideology says that a victim's life and family were horribly dysfunctional until they joined the cult. The cult solves all the victim's problems associated with the family by diminishing the family in every way possible.)"
i found it very interesting and true. |

| Yeah a lot of things about the church of scientology are very cult-like. it makes sense from a cult-leaders perspective to change/form family relationships and dynamics in such a way as to make the family unit dependant on the cult. If the family attempts to leave the cult it becomes dysfunctional because of the way they have been conditioned and they assume that the cult was responsible for their happiness. |
