So, I like them to hear the mix, so they know there's a new track coming in.

this is why tiestocle doens't get the respect. he refers to music fans (the 97%) as clueless. ass!

I liked the inteview, sounded a lot less forced and structured than some other interviews that I've read. A lot of inteviews when you read it, it's a question/answer session, this one was a lot mroe like an actual conersation, and it was refreshing to read.

I agree with him on one thing though, if it was all about clean mixing, 90% of the bedroom DJs would be GODS, and he'd be bottom of the barrel. But it's the other way around, and as much as you'll hate me for saying it, it's painfully obvious that he knows what it's about, and you don't. If you'd like to prove me wrong, go ahead, take your flawless mixing skills and try to ride that up to the top.

He's at the top, in the crosshairs of everybody. Everyone likes to criticise. If it wasn't mixing, it'd be track selection, if it wasn't track selection, it'd be his arrogance, or something else.

He does make some interesting comments and don't take the quotes too literal. If he says he makes mistakes, it doesn't mean he screws up during his live sets. He chooses a certain style for his own reasons - and risks that it is not up to his expectations. Risk taking is what any artist does and should do - and it means you're sometimes brilliant and inspiring, and sometimes you fail to impress. If it is a personal and creative choice - then the question is not 'is it good or bad, right or wrong mixing' but: does it work. And it obviously does, considering the fact that many people (myself included, and I am hardly a n00b in this field) enjoy his sets.

Try to really really read what the interview is all about and add some in depth comments and support it with some solid arguments - so far it's been mostly boring cliches that were posted in this thread.

Btw I was one of the interviewers ;)

I still don't like Tiesto...and you've known that for awhile Bernard :tongue2

Great interview BTW, even though I'm not a fan I still read it and found it interesting

all of them tunes are dance floor stompers and yup they are the future flight 643 and southern sun and for an angel.

All of these are future hits and current chart toppers. All you did was pick some of the newest tunes that are big in high profiles DJ's record boxes.

Although great, I doubt any one of these hold a candle to Flight 643/Southern Sun/For an Angel. It may not be because of the quality (quality is great, excellent production, great tunes), but more-so for the fact that people aren't latching onto tunes as much anymore.

BUT, with all that said: I still don't think any of those songs will come close to what 646/SS/For an Angel ever became.

I think we still get pretty good trance hits....
Hits in the past are classics today and hits today would be classics in the future....

For all you know, 5 years down the line you might be posting: Where are the Dogzilla - Without you's,The Other sides, the Serenitys, the love theme dusks, Enmass - CQs, castamaras etc. etc..

The style today has changed a bit, true, but I do think we are getting over judgemental about the music now, we still get many kickass releases..

Tiesto got me into Trance music (i am sure its not surprising, he gets many ppl into the music and should be respected for that mainstream or not, without Trance would not be where it is right now and a lot of DJ's wouldnt have the audience they have right now) about a year ago and ever since i have downloaded a bunch of his and other dj's music, of course starting with the popular dj's such PVD and AVB. I have to say i do notice the evolution of his sound from say ISOS 1 to 4, i have not yet listened to 5. I enjoyed listening to ISOS 4 and well to be honest did not pay much attention to the mixing until i started reading peoples review, however i did enjoy the CD. So then I bought ISOS 1, 2 and 3, and i started paying more attention to the mixing, while it does make a difference and i think 1 and 2 are mixed brilliantly, i think for me its more about the track selection, a good track selection with compromised mixing still does the trick. The point is this, I belive Tiesto when he says that he is mixing for 97% of his audience because quite frankly i am prob part of that 97%, however i also know that he can mix for that 3% as well cause just look at some of his previous work, so then why not take his statements for face value?

you're right and that's not becuase trance has become poor or low , the reason is because trance isn't new any more that's why its less intresting.

flight 643 for example its a track from the days that trance was new for a lot of ppl and really intresting.

trance never got better but also not the other way around

for some reason i can't load the interview.

but i liked tiesto before cause he had some good tracks. but his sets were lacking like posted above and that his newer tracks are to euroish type of music and not really trance sorta thing. (don't know if i said that right. still early in the morning)
and the comment about pvd and oakie becoming better and better is so true. i was definitely impressed on how well oakenfold has becomed since i haven't heard one of his sets in awhile and then on thursday he was awesome.
i've always listened to pvd and he's always impressed me, he's been getting better and better.
