What Constitutes A Gino
View this Thread in Original format

OK, I have noticed peeps on the forums especialliy in response to the Ferry Corsten show at Guvernment this weekend...alot of peeps are flaming ginos.

I am having some difficulty with this because I am not sure what exactly constitutes a gino. Is it a look? Is it a background? Is it a style? Is it an attitude? Is it a musical preference?

Because I have been called a gino in the past for the following reasons:

- I love cars
- I like Euro-dance and gino beats (freestyle)
- I am greek and hang out with alot of greeks and italians who are probably abit too ethnic or patriotic
- Dress sort of gino-ish I guess...but I don't dress cheezy like these dudes with shiny shimmering synthetic clothes.

In my defense, I like the music I like (although alot of you guys will call it cheeze because it has vocals and pop flavour) but thats cause I am open minded. My tastes have shifted over the years but quite frankly if it has a beat that can move me than I am down with it. Lately I have been listening to trance almost exclusively though...maybe its a temporary shift maybe permanent, who knows.

The cars etc. I don't know...they are my passion. I don't drink in excess (anymore) I don't use other mind altering substances. I have respect for people and am not a womanizer. I am proud of my nationality and am really into hanging out and getting involved in the greek community events and I listen to the music. Thats me.

When I was younger I used to like being labelled a gino (as opposed to goth, houser, punk, raver, wigger whatever) but now I don't really find a need to have a label...I am laz. In any case, some would still call me a gino, but since it is so hated and bad, I would be curious to know what it is and am I really a gino or is the definition screwed up.

I am not like those guys at Guvernment BTW...I try to walk around people I try not to be rude, I do not bother the ladies...if they are interested in me they'll give me the look or whatever, I am not a pushy salesman type of guy. I don't dress so flamboyant with shiny flammable clothing which is skin tight and meant to expose every part of my body. I don't look at people trying to start fights.

411 is appreciated!

conclusion: ur a gino...

for two reasons
heres one

"- I like Euro-dance and gino beats (freestyle)"

and the other

"- Dress sort of gino-ish I guess...but I don't dress cheezy like these dudes with shiny shimmering synthetic clothes."

the key word in the first sentence was freestyle...

the key word in the second setence is "dudes"

im sorry man i was once to labeled as a gino....and the ppl in chat still do label me as one....which i laugh...but either way ur a gino man...its ok...theres a place to go if its hard....they can give u help there...its called woodbridge...ull fit right at home...just hang out at the arcades at the colossus and drive ur civic up and down highway 7 ull feel alot better trust me...and remember COFFEE TIME is open 24 hrs there....so go dress up in ur best suit and head over
torontotrance
Tru........woodbridge is toronto's home of ginos. I agree with the conclusion vivid came to. I'm not a gino btw coz i hate freestyle music and i don't dress very stylish but i got gino friends and i have been to paparazzi and plastique and berlin. My opinion is forget the labels and do what you want to do.

I still like EuroDance and maybe 10% of Freestyle out there.

I was a eurodanceaddict long before I was a TranceAddict.

That's my $0.02.

I don't like hanging in Woodbridge and I make fun of guys who live for their car and posing etc. I like different forms of music right and yeah I have a soft spot for freestyle but I grew up on that . I don't listen to it much now...hardly...but my collection is massive. My trance collection was pretty large too until some fahker jacked 40 of my fave CDs...but oh well...so thats it then. I am a gino...so I automatically created a bad time for everybody at Guvernment then last night. See thats whatI don't get...I don't got the attitude, or even the look really. I have short hair, I look very Italian apparently but my clothes are all Banana Republic and Mexx...I wear conservative colors like charcoal and black but none of this tight and all black shiny material ...

Swamper, thanks dude...you made my day. I just don't see how liking mainstream music and trance can be mutually exclusive...I guess I was wrong about this community being so laidback and not so elitist or categorical...
it just kinda bugs me how alot of peeps here are so frantically trying to group people into some kind of category or class of lower or inferior beings...yet they mock racists and religious fundamentalists. Think of it this way...its almost a racism of sorts but against people you don't even know. I have noticed some people take offence on the boards from so called 'candy kids'. Well...you know what most people who don't know the trance scene at all automatically think if you like trance music you have multiple piercings, tatoos, wear loud colored jester hats and ol'school adidas pants, trip out on exstacy and chrystal etc. Kind of a hard stereotype to accept don't you think. I know for a fact not all trancers look like this though. So I guess I am a bit bugged out by the fact that I am considered a gino and a 'bad ass' because I can appreciate different art forms...or because I say 'dudes'...wow...you really are closed minded.

And if driving a nice car etc. makes someone a gino and bad person thats pretty lame too. I say people should just do what they want...the beauty of the net is noone has to judge you by your looks but its going on here...damn what a disappointment.

Ok from what I see you consitute a gino, jus cause of the freestyle (how can you like that? Ok you can listen to whatever you want, but I just think it tries way too hard...never really liked it) Anyway, I'm Greek/Cypriot as well, but only liked the cheez euro/dance in highschool for about a year...till I grew out of it. I still like some of it but depends what. (I'm kinda picky) I've been called a gino before as well cause of how I 'dress', khakis an a decent shirt etc. Plus I have a younger lil of a brother :whip: whom I consider a gino and it's just in the attitude (he's not a dick towards other ppl, his friends etc, he just can't STAND trance and hence freaks on me because of it, plus of my open mindedness to other types of music whereas he just sticks to the popular garbage that's out there) That's what sickens me the most...he's not even open to it. Mostly I think though what makes a person a "gino" is what I said before (and this is the most important aspect) the attitude. Makes me want to vomit sometimes...the "hangin with ma boys" type. puhleaze...:stongue: just laughable. lol And don't try to tell me gino's don't do that cause I know they do. (NOT all "gino's" obviously act like that) it's just the ones that do I can't stand. So there is my 2 cents...btw what greek community are you involved in?? One other thing...most of the real outwardly gino types don't even like trance etc they all go to paparazzi, plastique or palazzo. One thing I can vouch for at those places is ok granted the music is total CRAP (shudder)but ya dun have crakheadz every nite...I'd STILL rather go to Guv an go insane to Ferry though. Sat/Sun was awesome! :)
NOW I'm dun. :)
BTW: Gino's (and for that matter anybody) can do whatever they want I could care less, I just ignore what I don't like and do my own thing. I suggest that's what everybody do, I mean unless of course it crosses any sort've respectable boundary (like being extremely freakin pushy ahem Guv on Sat etc)
SYNthSRI
"Gino" canadian for what we in the East Coast US refer to as "Juice Heads" or "Posers"???
Rustang!
Laz, u r not a gino. A gino is 1) someone who dresses like the rest of his friends (Mostly old diesel designs which are mostly sold in canada b/c it's out of fashion everywhere else), 2) someone who drives a civic, claims it's a 10 second car despite the fact that my dad's station wagon is faster, 3) someone who argues with his dude-bud friends over who's spikes are bigger in thier hair. 4) if you sound somewhat inteligent when u speak, u are not a gino.

ginos are not labeled by the music they listen to, they are ginos because they are basically proud to be stupid. I like a few "gino beats", and i know some ginos who like rock, trance, and other forms of music. it's all in how they dress, act, and where thier hangouts are.
Endlesswave
Like I said before it's mostly about the attitude (sometimes the music...eh...I can't help it) lol But yeah I agree with rustang! and I take back me sayin you're a a gino laz cuz you're not. If your attitude is cool then it's all well and good.
Later.

Lazgti
OK...yeah I am not one of thos pushy fahkers who acts like the world has to make way for me no.

Like I said I like some of the gino music because I grew up with always around me and your right it tries way to hard. The only gino beats I really have any props for is the stuff from the old days like in the 80's and maybe early 90s. But like I said, I don't go out of my way to listen to it...I like it and thats that. But yeah...I don't try to show off in any way and I don't hold someones style or look against them. I treat others as I wish to be treated. Thats it...I just hate the derogitory nature of the term...

As for your brother, he's probably like my cousin. I too go sometimes to Paparazzi, Berlin, Palazzo...but you know what I have a time everytime. I go because my buddies like to go to these places. I would say I go with them 1 out every 5 times they go. I can't be bothered spending 10-20 buck for cover to listen to music that I can hear on the radio ( ..ahem...Z103.5), another 6 bucks a drink, watch a bunch of uptight princesses who dress to impress but totally shoot down and act rude to any guy says a simple ' hello '. Bro trust me that scene is not for me. When I was in university I used to hang out at bars more than clubs and I spent half the money and had 10 times better nights. Its hilarrious cause I actually makesome good money now and when I go out its just all a bull show of people acting like something they aren't especially at these gino clubs you refer to. I am not a poser and I don't show off so I don't blend well in this atmosphere. I can't wait to go to some real clubs where the attitude is left at the door...March 2 I am in Puerto Vallarta...can't wait...when I went to Cancun despite it being all Torontonians it was much more laid back and less elitist than in Toronto. Summertime...I'll be on the Greek islands and if things go well from there I may be hitting Holland and staying there...not permanently but probably for a year or two.

Endless Wave...cool name man...one of my all time fave trax.

From the way you write your posts, I can't possibly say you're a gino, laz. Take it from rustang's fourth point:
