I got 3 of them taken out last year and it was fine... My face didn't even swell. Got given percocet, floated on my own little cloud for about a week, and all was well :D

I'm sure you'll be fine Lindsay. I've never had mine out so I can't give you any advice. But I do have to get my wisdom teeth out in a couple weeks! I'm pretty nervous too! Maybe I'll start my own thread.

Good luck with your surgery :)

You'll be fine! The anesthetic is the only part i didn't like so much... the laughing gas didn't make me laugh :( lol But as soon as they give you the needle, you're out like a light!

Just keep an icepack on your cheeks at all times for the first few days and you'll have no swelling whatsoever. The pain isn't too bad either, my tongue piercing was a lot more painful to me than my wisdom teeth being pulled out :tongue2

OK, so scared while I was laying on the operating table...then before I knew it, I was waking up in the recovery room and being wheeled into a room with another girl who had her tonsils out too.

She was more scared and upset than I was... So I felt Filbert and I had to try to cheer her up. And when I realized that I could still speak... Wow, i never shut up..

Of course the morphine helped with that!

I cannot eat anything solid... I am sleeping alot... and I have to take medicine every 4 hrs to keep the pain at bay... but other than that... I think I will be out and about in no time...

Thanks for all your advice peeps!!

P.S. I finally had time to give Filbert a bath today... boy did he ever need it!!

Just as an update...

Was so hungry yesterday, I decided to eat chicken and mashed potatoes and peas... and then I decided that I should ween myself off the tylenol 3's... BIG MISTAKE!!

I am in so much pain today and all I can suffer down are popsicles.

Lesson learned... I am not a tough girl!

Gahhhhhhhhh oh noo!! I hope you feel better soon. Oh man, just reading that made my throat hurt.

not to scare you or anything but my personal experience, i had them taken out last year and it was hell on earth seriously. I was out of work for about a week on disability leave, couldn't talk or eat anything. Jello got OLD REAL QUICK! there isn't much you can do except keep yourself heavily sedated on percs or liquid vicodin. It's just a REALLY sore throat...oh yea and that whole ice cream myth, don't do it. Ice cream is the worst actually because the milky substance forms in your throat and just irritates it over time, and even worse, you can't clear your throat of that mucus lol it's really disgusting but there isn't much you can do.

You should be fine in about a week, the worst is the first 3 days after that it's just a slow relaxing recovery. Good luck and don't be afraid of the operation, just be ready to cope with pain and not eating for about a week.

After the 4th-5th day i overdosed on eggs LOL, scrambled eggs are soft but that got old just as quick LOL.

edit--saw your post above, in post-op i guess...
don't try to eat LOL and clearly being tough is not a judgement on dealing with pain, it's the ability to cope with time you endure the pain. Pain is nothing, it's a temporary sensation. Pain over time requires a great deal of mental capacity. We are with ya.....
