ps: cable news rots your brain.

It's not giving away citizenships. Even if all these laws pass, people will NOT get a US Citizenship overnight. DUE PROCESS comes in effect when they begin to process the application. US Citizenship is something VERY hard to get.

What do you think makes it so hard to get? I suppose that is what I don't understand. Is it the paperwork that is difficult? or... is it the time and money required? I have had friends from other countries (not Meixco), and they also said that it was a tedious process. You have to take a test or something too? I can't remmeber if it was oral test or written or what... but said it wasn't easy

But can they pay taxes, and have no citizenship? How do they get fake socials? (just make up a number :conf:

Yes they can pay taxes! The IRS and ICE are two different entities.

When an illegal immigrant uses a fake social, or someone else's social, unwillingly, they build SOCIAL SECURITY for the social's owner. That's another way the illegal immigrants loose on. Fake socials are no harder to get than a fake id. Most employers don't check for the social's validarity. You can practically get a fake social from anyone that sells fake IDs.

Another problem I see with the amnesty (perhaps unjustified), that if Bush grants amnesty to those already in, I don't think that will discourage illegal immigration. In fact I believe that would encourage those to continue to come in, illegally.

I love it when people blame everything on the President. You can blame Bush all you want, but the fact of the matter is that this issue will be here for as long as we are alive. It's up to Congress and the Senate to fix this, not the President.

BTW, I don't give a about Bush!

Perhaps in time, many desirable jobs will be taken?

If that's the case, then shouldn't people who are here legally or a US Nationals take advantage of their status and prepare them selves better to prevent that from happening? Those people have all the benefits and advantages pointing at them, why are they putting them to use? There's no excuse for that.

I spent two years in Sweden, which has very open immigration laws, and basically accepts anyone, and they can come in legally. However, many complain that job market is poor, and that there is too many immigrants that are benefiting off the socialist system.

I'm not familiar with their system, but I know other countries with guest worker programs have no issues. Look at Canada. Canada allows Mexican's to be guest workers there and they don't seem to have a problem. The only problem I see with them, is that it's way far north, while the US is only a days trip by bus.

I think that by immigrating legally. It allows the US to better controll the numbers of people inside the US, to better not only economy, but ensure quality of life.

Immigrating legally is ideal. However, the current process sucks ass. A 10 year waiting period is unrealistic.

Yes. I agree also, but I think that if they riot for Visa's... I see it snowballing into rioting for citizenship.

I wish that the US would take a very firm approach to this issue one way or the other.

I have not heard a single report about riots anywhere in the country as a direct result of today's demonstrations.

The process is hard. You do have to take both written and oral exams, but you also have to wait for a long time. My cousin waited for nearly 10 years before he could get a visa. I waited for 5.

Heres my cousin's story....

Last month my cousin got his green card after 10 years waiting. He never even lived here in the US but the US made him prove that he was never married here. When he showed up to his appointment a year ago, the US didn't belive that he was not married here. They denied his visa and took his passport away. ICE gave him a second appointment for a year later. They also asked for a court letter stating that he was never married in OC. But how on earth is he suppossed to get a court letter if ICE took his passport away? Luckily I live here, and I got it for him. Otherwise he would've been screwed. And meanwhile, all this is costing him thousands of dollars.

Trips to the US Consulate in Juarez, Mexico aren't cheap. Every time he went, he spent nearly $7000. That's $14,000 in two years. That includes lawyer fees, transportation, the whole works. Most people can't afford that. So what do they do? They come here, work illegally, save money, and then apply.

One thing that I do give ICE props for, was that when he showed up the second time, they asked him if he had family. He said yes, and ICE granted visas to all of them. They didn't want to break the family apart. That was awesome!
