As for psy being the future... On the commercial front and by that I mean the clubbing scene I definitely dont think that people would get into it... Its a little bit too out there for most people ( myself / yourself excluded obviously ). Theres some ing awesome psy out there but it seems that most of the n00blahz out there want to listen to music that Mary Poppins would rawwwk to...

Who n0se mangz : /

but for 3 years all of melbourne rocked to prog soo deep you needed 15 pipes of ice to understand ---all im saying is - why not?

for both onion and queen vee - ever been to st kilda festival? - i seen 10,000 yuppies goen bannanas to the stuff im talking about (when i say bannanas im talking about pink polos dancing on speakers and mooning policemen)

Not really, this statement is not true if you've seen or heard Armin, Corsten, Tiesto, PvD, Oakenfold, Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz or any of those guys, esp Armin, Corsten and Tiesto. They have a tendencey to play progressive stuff early on, more melodic progressive or some really deep rhythmic stuff, and then later on build the sets up to play epic stuff mixed in with tech stuff or even electro.

they are ony doing what digweed, sasha, bt and warren did like 8 years ago and the new guys arent doing it very well :|

just like there are variations within trance, there are variations within psy trance. i dont see it as 'the future', who knows what is the future, but when you grow tired of listening to something and you get into something new, you might like it. some psy trance i really like, some i think is , just like anything. i just think you are expanding your taste a little jules :)

Well I was a fan of what those guys you mentioned were doing 8 years ago, and then I got into the sound of AvB, Tiesto and Corsten, and I have seen over the years that their sound has evolved. Even back in the day when they played "trance anthems" they were also mixing it in with prog and some techier stuff, and they continue to do so to this day. They might not be doing the proggier stuff as well as the real, true "prog DJs" like you mentioned, but they shouldn't be stereotyped as playing epic after epic all the time, to certain crowds and certain events they "might" play more epic, but again it depends on where they are playing, when they are playing, how long they are playing and just what the crowd seems to want to hear.

Can you expand on this?

I'm honestly wondering if people who make these claims can back it up with examples without referring to the 1 or 2% of commercial psy that comes out of Israel these days. (I'm talking about GMS, Astrix, Skazi and the Phonokol and Homegga's etc..)

If you can show me for example how dark psy (eg: Dissociative, Naked Tourist) or twisted full-on (eg: Shift, Artifakt) has grown tired of late, I'll try and counter it with examples. Not trying to be a wit, just really trying to assess what music these sorts of opinions are based on?!

Sure be happy to ellaborate. Mid 90s, Hallucinogen & Twisted were pushing it, Late 90s - Astral Projection then the Isrealis. Round 2000, Scando trance were pushing, then back to isreal and South Africa were pushing it. Now it seems in my opinion, that the full on movement is going dry. Nobody really pushing it. I mean, yes theres taht wacky noise / forest psy, but that to me is just strange - doesn't have a groove, no complex melodies - just trippy noise. I'm not saying that's bad, but for me - just doesn't do it.

I'm finding the people that are making the best stuff are the psy-proggy guys. There is getting super refined, very dancefloor friendly and also can appeal to commercial clubs.

I used to always go to St Kilda Street festival & Chapel Street Festival... Ive seen yuppies go nuts to pure acid let alone pthy tranth. A festival one off sort of occassion is different from a club scene...

Music unfortunately like clothing has its own - eras / time frames... where different genres will be "in" at various clubs and bars. However I don't believe most people have the mental capacity to genuinely appreciate psy trance on a regular basis at a club... Thats not to say the genre is house because its not popular... on the contrary - Its awesome.

As for prog being popular for 3 years... I tend to disagree. I think most people ( yourself excluded ) appreciated prog simply because it was a new sound in Melbourne... not because they actually loved it and understood it. What ended up happening? It died in its ass :c Just like a pair of acid washed jeans in the 80s ;) Or those fluro green and orange shirts in the 90's... And those people who genuinely loved prog kept listening to it... like yourself.

I will agree with cyzum on the psy-prog stuff being amazing these days. Stuff by Lush, Sun Control Species, and Yotopia among others have caught my ear in a way full on hasn't. I guess it depends on what mood I'm in. In the end, just listen to what sounds good to you. Thats all I do.

No !! Allied Nations you are so fortunate to live in a place where psy is as big as it is. I so wish I lived where you live! Here where I live, the events are few and far between and it sucks ass. I have to wait months in between events and sometimes longer. I'll be seeing Eskimo in July so I'm really looking forward to that.

:) Bombay is a rocking city. And the tipping on the cake is the fact that Goa is very close.

If you ever get the chance, go to India -> Goa in the winter. Around December January time.

Goa is all about beach parties, full moon parties, raves, psy festivals...

Looking forward to going to back home now.....:o

That is EXACTLY where I don't want Psy going (i realize you were refering to progpsy).. I want it to stay as underground as possible.. I hate commercialization, why must it with everything that I like.. :whip:

Anyways. I'm glad this thread has stayed as a proper discussion.. rare to see on TA.. ;)

Yes Suomi isn't my tastes either.

:haha: ... commercial clubs ?! :nervous: OK, I see where you are coming from now.

I'd suggest listening to some of the dark psy from russia and india. And also the dark full-on from SA and Israel, but this isnt exactly 'club friendly' music. There are LOTS of psy producers pushing the envelope on the darker side of things...
apollo_144
psy trance is huge in mexico but I personally think that any form of trance blows ing ass nowadays.
