Yes. Having run a clubnight in Van that was about 95% asian, it was fairly amazing to see. I once went out for dinner with some of the regular clubgoers at this really nice Chinese restaurant since they were friends with the owner of the restaurant, who looked like your typical 50 yr old asian man. I then saw him later that night at the club looking along the lines of :eyespop:  :eyespop: :eyes:

That's why you gotta love Montreal. We know music better than most cities. In Los Angeles, Avalon especially, it's all about the party, not the music. I really wanna experience a Toronto party to see what the difference is between Toronto and Montreal. Who knows... maybe I'll make a trip down for LOL this fall.... hmmmmmm

In every city there are people who know the music, and people who just use the music to fuel their drug use. there's nothing special about montreal or toronto or NYC in this regard.

I beg to differ. I don't know about van or LA but I have been to Toronto, and many north eastern venues in the states and there is a definite difference between them and Montreal. Even the people who use the scene to fuel their drug use in Montreal are more pleasant to be around. They know how to dance and not just sit there with dialated pupils. Also people in montreal(at the after hour scene) are not completely mezmerized by style. Not to say that people in montreal are not well dressed. In fact montreal women are the most beautifully dressed women in the world. What I mean is that in those areas people are concerned with brands and tradmarks. If you don't have the latest fashion designer trend you might get turned away at the door. In montreal if your dressed well and look good your in, wich adds immensly to the scene allowing everybody to enjoy it. Also I have seen more grinding on a U.S dancefloor during edm than I care to mention. In montreal this occassionaly occurs but not on the scale that it happens in other u.s venues(common guys let the girls dance they look so beautifull when there left alone). Plus in other venues lights are such a part of the scene in Montreal people give hands the freedom they deserve during dancing. Also most people in U.S venues are more concerned with big name dj's. Wich creates a scene that has no distinction. That means local Dj'S adopt the music of these big name DJ's. Poeple in montreal support there locals. Sometimes more than international DJ's wich has given the montreal music a distinction. When I saw Paul oakenfold at Sona he played trance but it definitely had a montreal vibe to it. Finally people in montreal give more meaningfull conversation when you meet them. They don't just talk about how messed up they are.

Sorry if I came of like a jerk but I have been partying since 99 and ever since I came to montreal I haven't left. This city is the city that taught me to appreciate the scene not the drugs. As for Europe I have no Idea but be fiance finally agreed to to save and go to Ibiza next summer. Hoppefully well make it to some other european venues

I have to say that the burlington VT scene is fun and I did party there alot for two years. Going from house party to house party. The breaks that were playing there were sick and were responsible
for geting me into that kind of electronic music. Also the people were awsome but I haven't been there since last summer to party so I don't know what its like now.

Again I'm sorry if I came of like a jerk but the montreal scence is very important to me because of its distinction

I disagree - I think you are characterizing toronto based on only a few visits to one or two select venues.

Often, the people that know the most about the music being played are at smaller venues that cater to a more knowledgeable crowd, with less famous DJs.

One thing about Toronto is we have an abundance of smaller events specifically for this crowd, with lesser known DJs. We have many many promoters running smaller events in many many venues around the city, not just in 5 or fewer big clubs. Its an aspect of the toronto scene that is not as prevalent in Montreal from what I have heard.

I am not even suggesting this makes Toronto better than Montreal in any way shape or form, but to suggest that Montreal has so many more knowledgeable music lovers than any other major clubbing centre in North America is just too extreme. To characterize Toronto based on what you saw at the guvernment is just naiive.

I never said I went to the guv. but anyway....

I'm not going to argue about if toronto is better than montreal or anything to that effect but I know what I see and I know where I've been and I use to go out in NYC all the time its where I first started going out and I stand by my erlier statements regarding the venues in this city. Plus I use to go out in hartford and boston and when montreal was talking about deep dish these people were still stuck on PVD. In fact I went to a party in hartford and was asked by several people who my favorite DJ's were and when I answered Deep Dish they said who?
Anyway I respect your oppionion on toronto because it is your backyard. I have been interested in sonic lately. But I know that the toronto scene has not produced a DJ on the same caliber as PREACh(my fav), Mistress barbara and many more MTL DJ's.

No offense and I respect your oppinion

I hope sonic takes off. If that happens it will certainly change things in your neck of the woods
