Yeah, way before SOOC, Straight Out Of Compton. They had some ing awesome supersaw synths too in Da Police.

I'm slightly confused as to what defines a supersaw, because people in this kind of thread seem to refer to any generic trance synth as a supersaw.

I was always under the impression that it was one of this big, fuzzy synth sounds that fill up space, a la:

Airscape - L'esperenza (Tiesto Remix)
Rank 1 - Awakening
Cygnus X - Superstring (Rank 1 Mix)
Future Breeze - Temple of Dreams

...and so forth. Out of the Blue and other typical Ferry productions have a synth sound which I've never considered a supersaw. However, as I've no experience of synths and all my knowledge is observational, can someone clear this up?

Yeah, I can just picture that.

"You are about to witness the power of street knowledge."

*Monstrous supersaw melody kicks in*

The oldest blatant example I can think of right now is Albion's Air from '97 but there's bound to be some before that...

which is strange because i still love it yet i can't stand anymore almost any track with supersaws :wtf:

(but then again Air uses it in a completely different way, i'm assuming the supersaw sound you're talking about isn't the lead but that kinda-pad that is played once in a while)

OK, forget the Beach Boys for now and think '99 (and before) trance. Which bands used that supersaw lead like Rank 1 did.

So far I only have 2 names I came up myself:

1/ Rank 1 - Superstring (as mentioned)
2/ System F (Ferry Corsten) - Out of the Blue (more an arpeggio lead then a stab lead like Rank 1 actually)

Add to this list please..
