the vinyl market (ebay) - whats going on? is it declining/decreasing? (pg. 2)

I've noticed this recently when buying rare vinyls on Ebay.

Bought some quality vinyl-only tunes from 2000-2003, some from famous compilations and it felt like a steal getting them for £5-10 each.

get your point, but i mean, most mp3 releases are CHEAPER than a record release, are they not? so how would you get ripped off?

I don't know, I just don't like the idea.

I was planning on selling my whole vinyl collection in a few weeks on ebay to get some much needed cash... and this thread appears :(

you can still get your $12 per vinyl, but its the rarities in general that droped in price.

I'm curious about the fact what it's gonna do in the future.

For example:

A few years ago you bought a nice vinyl for 15 euro on eBay. Now you can find the same record for 5 euro. What would it be in about 2 years or something? Will the price be around 2 euro, will it stay on 5, or maybe the price will rise again to 10?
Who can say...

$12 per vinyl? I think that's way too much. Depeding on which records of course...

you're right. when buying it, u can easily compile a legal cd of fav tracks. when mixing with cd-r's, it's a great advantage, i think. however, i dont use cd-r's. right now i stick to vinyl.

anyway, plz stay on topic. discussing all this is good, but plz lets stick to the topic ... share ur thoughts ;)

vinyl market is decreasing, theres no doubt about that. But i think that SOME tracks that are very very veeeery good always get a vinyl release cus people who release know that this track is worth the expenses of vinyl pressings and distributing.

good point bro. vinyl is still a worthy medium to release music on. however, this discussion (vinyl vs digital formats (cd's/mp3's) has been made numerous times too ..

there is a way to get good prices. first, its a plus to have a good feedbackprofile when selling stuff. next to that, dont sell to large quantities at 1 time, but neither too less. selling stuff from a circum period/year, style, or just records that 'fit' together, gains higher prices too. for example, selling a couple of records that are all wanted/rare a lot, wont gain such high prices, but on the other hand, selling a list of records with no or just a few rarities wont either gain high prices, at least, thats what it seems like.
there is a way (which can, i think, only be understood be knowing the record-market, on eBay for example) where ending-prices are still pretty decent

however, quoting waxhead, the prices are still not that way as it was some years ago ...

in the context discussed in this thread, its about when you sell a record (mostly on eBay discussed). not when you buy it in a record-store ...
DaanMc
I meant the 2nd hands records, not the new ones...

Vinyl is dead guys, has been for a while. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

If the record is in mint condition, should it lose value because you are not purchasing it from a "record store"?

For all you know most tracks in record shops could be 2nd hand and you may never know.
