Do you download albums before they're released?

I dunno if this thread will get closed or not. If it does, oh well.
I was just wondering if you guys download albums before they're released? I don't really download CDs. DJ sets, yes...but CDs, not really. I have downloaded a few in the past, and if I end up liking it, I'll buy the CD...support the artist.
The reason I'm asking this though is b/c recently I was given the oppurtunity to hear Ferry Corsten's new L.E.F. album before it is due to be released. It was originally supposed to be released May 26th but the date was pushed back. I declined the offer to listen to the album though b/c as excited as I am for my favorite producer/DJ's new CD I don't want to listen to it before it's supposed to come out. I guess I just want to do it the "right way".
Maybe I'm crazy. But I dunno...that's just my opinion.
Note: Some people are telling me to just download the album anyway, and wait to listen to it until it's supposed to be released. I don't believe in that. Ferry's my favorite DJ, I want to buy his CD and support him!! |

| I know what you mean. For me, its movies. I know people who will download movies and watch them instead of going to the theatre. That's fine, if that's what you want to do, I don't have a problem with you doing it. However, I will not watch a downloaded movie. granted, that also has to do with the fact that I think its hypocritical to download movies and then expect to make a living off working on movies, you know? :) |

| Yep. Best way to decide if I like the album long before it hits the shelves. If by the time it's on the shelves I'm still in love with it, I buy. If I download, and there's 1, maybe 2 good tracks on it, I keep the album on my HD, but don't waste the money buying. |

Although I scored a copy of TPOD2 before it was released, I have since bought it twice. Originally to support Paul and then because I lose everything.
I think when his artist album comes out I will be waiting though.. I know how you feel. |

"The Edge is very pro-Napster, actually," Bono says. "He thinks that as long as people are using their computers for music, and not playing mindless games, that's good. My feeling," he adds, "is that it's cool for people to share our music -- as long as no one is making money from the process. We tell people who come to our concerts that they can tape the shows if they want. I think it's cool that people are so passionate about our music -- especially about this new album, quite honestly."

I do tend to do that yes.
Some artists can be hit and miss but if it's good, I definately go out and buy it. :D
