now, if you don't mind the wait, then wait.
if you can't wait, then don't.

You say that as if you just settled some big argument in this thread, lol. |

I dunno if this thread will get closed or not. If it does, oh well.
I was just wondering if you guys download albums before they're released? I don't really download CDs. DJ sets, yes...but CDs, not really. I have downloaded a few in the past, and if I end up liking it, I'll buy the CD...support the artist.
The reason I'm asking this though is b/c recently I was given the oppurtunity to hear Ferry Corsten's new L.E.F. album before it is due to be released. It was originally supposed to be released May 26th but the date was pushed back. I declined the offer to listen to the album though b/c as excited as I am for my favorite producer/DJ's new CD I don't want to listen to it before it's supposed to come out. I guess I just want to do it the "right way".
Maybe I'm crazy. But I dunno...that's just my opinion.
Note: Some people are telling me to just download the album anyway, and wait to listen to it until it's supposed to be released. I don't believe in that. Ferry's my favorite DJ, I want to buy his CD and support him!! |
in your case, I don't see the point in downloading it since you're more than likely to buy it regardless (ferry being your favorite). so waiting doesn't seem like a bad idea, you'd appreciate it more that way.
i'd believe in downloading if you want to test out some music new to you and what not. downloading led me to electronic music and greater things now (which are purchased after adoring), so it's a tool to explore, more convenient than bad cuts of 30-second samples... I hope this makes sense. |

I know what you mean. For me, its movies. I know people who will download movies and watch them instead of going to the theatre. That's fine, if that's what you want to do, I don't have a problem with you doing it. However, I will not watch a downloaded movie. granted, that also has to do with the fact that I think its hypocritical to download movies and then expect to make a living off working on movies, you know? :) |
totally... it hurts me pretty bad when I see this at the asian malls, not to say that's the only place it happens..

lol, I almost never download movies. If it's got good special effects, I see those in the theatres, since the FX are kinda lost on a TV screen. If I didn't see it in theatres (and if it's good enough even when I have), I go and rent the thing. It's 5 bucks - worth paying to get instantly rather than waiting all night to download it.
I rarely ever get the urge to watch a movie more than once. |

but i have this thing about ownership for commercial goods... as in its one thing to have something( like a CD downloaded off the internet or a bootleg DVD).. but its different to own it which basically implies buying... if i like something a lot.. i'll buy it just to have it...
kind of stupid i suppose... but its just one of my things!

My thoughts exactly. People always say "why do you buy that movie if you already have it downloaded" and such and such. I just want it, b/c I want the whole package! |

Where I work (Alliance Atlantis <-- I don't say that to 'brag' btw) one of the Presidents actually went to the Pacific Mall with a big hockey duffel bag, walked up to one of the 'movie' vendors, scooped ALL the movies on the table and left his business card...
true story... |

This all depends on how good your home theatre is. |

True, but this is what rentals are made for. If good special effects, I almost always go see it in theatres first, if I'm gonna see it at all. |
