I know what you mean. For me, its movies. I know people who will download movies and watch them instead of going to the theatre. That's fine, if that's what you want to do, I don't have a problem with you doing it. However, I will not watch a downloaded movie. granted, that also has to do with the fact that I think its hypocritical to download movies and then expect to make a living off working on movies, you know? :)

..I'll only buy the movies you worked on!

Yep. Best way to decide if I like the album long before it hits the shelves. If by the time it's on the shelves I'm still in love with it, I buy. If I download, and there's 1, maybe 2 good tracks on it, I keep the album on my HD, but don't waste the money buying.

what he said.

yep. i can't afford to buy every album i like. and a lot of the time, i only like 1 or 2 songs. buuut if it's a "love it can't live without it" kind of thing, then i buy it.

besides, there are so many new bands that i want to listen to, it's the easiest way for me to decide if i want to buy the album when it comes out later over here, as everything i like is pretty much imported.

1) download
2) listen
3) decide if its worth it
4) buy/delete

Definatly!

I remember when HMV used to let you buy albums and listen to them at home and then return them if you didn't like them. That was awesome.

Now you can only listen to CDs at a listen station. But that's sort of inconvenient if there's a bunch of CDs you want to listen to. Not to mention, I dunno about you guys but I always feel bad if I'm there for a long time, so you don't really get to hear what's on the CD.

its also great that we have an oportunity to download livesets and listen to those unreleased tracks in advance which actually help us decide if we want to purchase them in the future or not.

di.fm should play a lot more "released" albums on their playlists imo than DJ mixes and random songs. I've been listening at work for only a week and already heard two albums I'd consider buying.

I never download albums.. i have on occasion recieved burnt versions of other ppl's bought albums.. but i never download...
i usually just go to amazon.com and have a sample listen to all the songs and then decide if its worth buying

sets i do download though... and lots of em.. but i have this thing about ownership for commercial goods... as in its one thing to have something( like a CD downloaded off the internet or a bootleg DVD).. but its different to own it which basically implies buying... if i like something a lot.. i'll buy it just to have it...

kind of stupid i suppose... but its just one of my things!

I bought State of Trance 2006 today at HMV, but I had the ripped version for more than two months on my hard drive. I delete the mp3 once I get the CDs. I have no hard feelings for those who do not buy, but I like the quality from CDs rather than mp3s. I definitely hear the quality differences so I prefer the CDs.

what's the difference between hearing an album a month or two before it's to be released and hearing it after it's released?

that's right... there is no difference except the one in your head!

now, if you don't mind the wait, then wait.

if you can't wait, then don't.

and don't even try to get the morals into this whole discussion (I for one don't ever buy CDs unless they really blow me away... and that happens once every couple of years, if at all).
