Like it says i had my first gig last night at a club. I have been playing for about 8 months now and i was stokes about it. I was so fuc*ing nervous when i got up. That was the most nervous i had ever been in my life i believe. I played from 9:30 to 10:45 and the crowd was at about 75 to a 100 people when i got off. the only 2 bad things were most of my songs were on cd and they only had one cd player but i made due with what i had on vinyl so that worked out, and the other thing is my style of music is trance to prog trance from about 135 to 141 bpm. That totally clashed with the next dj music. But the chicks liked what i did and that made me feel good.
P.S. I had a hangover this morning from drinking to much after i got off to help me quit shaking!!! |
haha i envy you. Still waiting for that first gig... |

Get your ego out of it buddy, you are there to make it a good night for all the people in the club. A proper warm up can be as important or moe important as the peak hour. |

I dont agree, a warm up slot here is to consists of some house an build it into prog trance I love this kind of music, but i jus dont really like playing it |

A good dj should be able to warm up a night, play the peak hour, and close it properly. If you can't find tunes you love spinning that allow you to properly fulfill those roles as a DJ, I suggest you stop, unless it's just a hobby, or something you do on your own time. |

I'm not sure if that's what he meant but in my case, I wouldn't mind warming up and closing, as long as I got to play peak hour too. Just warming up to give up the decks to someone else is like cooking a great meal and not getting to eat it. ;) |

I hear both of your comparisons, but it's not about you suprisingly enough, it's about the clubbers and the party. If you are booked to play a warm up play it the best you can and you may have fun doing it. Forget about your ego, and look at what you do as a DJ. Sure, everyone has their preferences I agree, but come on. Maybe I'm a being a bit of a crusader here, but how much do you hate a warm up set at a club? Or a closer that can't feel that late night/early morning vibe. It's all part of the night. To become a great dj, you should at least master these aspects of playing- They may not be your favorites, but no one in the crowd cares. |

| I know what you mean about mastering those aspects. I still only spin for myself, but when I do I still take the time to build up as if I was doing a warmup set for a crowd, and that's my favorite part of it, but only because I get to be the one to blow it up afterwards. ;) |
