I know what you mean about mastering those aspects. I still only spin for myself, but when I do I still take the time to build up as if I was doing a warmup set for a crowd, and that's my favorite part of it, but only because I get to be the one to blow it up afterwards. ;) |
That's a very selfish way of being. |

| I meant that as in I spin alone in my bedroom. I now realize that it might've been a confusing choice of words :p |

Ahh yeah, now I see what you mean. I think you will realize, you play tunes you love- only play tunes you love, never sacrifice that, but understand the dynamics of the whole night. IMHO, I've played great warmups, e warmups, great peak hour sets, e ones, great closers, and piss poor ty closers (One in particular :p). Become comfortable with the hours between 10 PM and 10 AM. |

| What I meant earlier is that basicly, I'm a bit paranoid and I wouldn't trust another DJ to use my warmup to it's full extent. He's just gonna play his tracks regardless, wheras if I had both slots I could create my ideal progression, including the warmup, peak hour and whatever else comes with it. |

Yeah, but we did have a semi relative, highly insightful conversation, so alls well that ends well! |

very true, although it can be annoying if noone arrives at the club until just before you finish so your not actually vwarming anyone up but the bar staff!
even more annoying when the DJ after you cant play a warmup set and starts banging out the anthems, or even worse is just really , has happened to me on a couple of occasions |
Or even worse, when a club puts a e DJ on first, who then belts it out...
Everyone puts unknown DJs on first, which makes sense as the crowd are going to want to see the big DJs peak time, but what a lot of promoters don't seem to realise is that 90% of the time a DJ who hasn't played out before doesn't know how to warm up properly, so does a e job of it.
I played for a night a couple of years ago who hadn't heard of me and had just heard a demo. As they didn't know whether I could warm up properly or not, my first set there was an hour peak time between two of the bigger DJs playing - I think it takes a lot of guts for a club to do that, but at the end of the day it makes sense as up-and-coming DJs practicing at home normally practice playing peak time tracks, a demo usually shows a peak time set and IMO it tends to be easier to play a reasonable peak time set than a reasonable warm up set. |

So really you had no proper, trustworthy cd players to use... :p
Glad you made it through your first gig... I wasn't quite as nervous as you sound like you were... once I was up and playing the nerves settled down except during transistions.. haha.. |
i played 2 house parties for peoples graduations yesterday morning or two nights ago... however you want to look at it:p
i ed up a lot but it didnt matter because everyone was socializing. we needed some alcohol lol. it came to my attention that my music library is very small and i need a bigger cd case as mine only hold about 20 cd total |

Holy ! That's nothing! I'd say at any given point in time at a gig I have at least 1000 tunes at my fingertips. This numbers shifts around a lot as sometimes I have a lot less stuff on my laptop or whatever- but roughly 500 tunes on cds, anywhere from 200 - 800 on my laptop depending on what I've put on it, with very few overlaps between the cds and laptop. |
