Why not? We need more bans!
Sure they are saying novice drivers for now. Just how the bike helmet law STARTED off as only for under 18.

JUN 14, 2006 - 09:00 ET
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 14, 2006) - The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is calling on all Provincial governments to legislate a restriction on the use of electronic devices by novice drivers in their graduated licensing programs (GDL).
"This restriction is not an effort to 'punish' novice drivers - rather, this is a measure to help them master their driving skills, while reducing distractions," said CAA President David Flewelling. "Novice drivers are subject to many restrictions as they learn to drive, such as not driving on four-lane highways and not driving during certain hours. By also restricting the use of electronic devices, such as cell phones, MP3 players and wireless hand-held devices, they can truly focus on the driving task.
"It is also our hope that a preventative measure like this one will create a generation of motorists who recognize the severe implications of driver distractions - and work towards reducing them where they can."

Yea, whereas those crazy contraptions known as MP3 players or cell phones are the root cause of bad driving. haha
Pretty soon they'll ban talking in the car because THAT will be a distraction to the driver. |

Not necessarily. There are in-dash receivers now too. But if this is a blanket ban and the CAA gets this pushed through, XM and Sirius can say goodbye in Canada.
However - I can sort of see why it's going on. When I first started driving, I didn't want the radio on or anything lest I get distracted and run into some douchebag's new Escalade or some . |

What they really need to ban is in dash GIANT LCD screens. Who the needs one of those for entertainment purposes? I can see it for navigation, but most people I know with them use the screens for entertainment and not help.
If you want to watch a movie, go home or to a theatre. |
