I think that is the sound you are definitely hearing more of. Although I don't tend to get out to the clubs as much and even as far as downloading sets online I have only gotten about 3 in the last month and none of which have been Sasha or other dj's you have mentioned. But I have still heard the sets and I have listened to fans of that dj state how it is changing and becoming more common.
As far as where it will go. I think that you have to have an open mind to it. DJ's will notice when the play whether they get the reactions they would normally get and could change it up depending on what they are looking for or feeling at that time.
But to put a timeframe on it.. I don't think that can be done. Look at the electro bleep bleep tunes and where they are now. |

of course it makes sense.. it isn't a sound that you can just throw out there after you have been playing the electro progressive house beats... we need to be brought into it gradually imo
unless of course you absolutely love it and then there isn't an issue |

I personally think that minimal is "old fart" music
just like my dad that started listening to jazz/classical music.. i remember when i was a kid, we would be in the car and he would blast dance or trance or w/e it was in the car about 10-15years ago and now whenever i go in his car he's listening to classical music on low volume.
This is the same feeling i get with minimal and as you notice sasha and lawler and others have been in the scene for a while and it feels like their styles have changed, they are tired of the "banging sound" and just want to relax and play relaxing music (minimal). I dont know if im making sense but thats what it feels like. |

The sound is starting to evolve....now it seems to be minimal with a dash of funk....or minimal with a wee bit of a melody.
With that new sound of minimal emerging it will become alot more appealing to those who don't care for the minimal everyone knows.
Minimal...but not minimal I think you said it best Ryan :D |

it has been for a while.
not in north america because north america is always two steps behind but in places like london + berlin that is defo the big sound now and you cant get away from it. some sounds cool, while other stuff is incredibly boring. but thats the same as with any other genre of music. |

This was a debate that was had a year or two ago...I don't know what minimal John Digweed is playing but if he's just started playing it then he's a little behind the times!
Germany and Detroit have been pushing forward the minimal sound for years.
As with any other genre, there's some really good stuff out there but there's a whole lot of crap. Everyone wants to produce what's hot right now.
When I hear Angello and Ingrosso being called minimal I cringe. Minimal, as it was intended to be, and how it originated before all of the hype, can be heard from artists like Hawtin, Gaiser, Magda, Troy Pierce, Anja Schneider, Dan Bell, Donnacha Costello, Guido Schneider, etc...
It is not everyone's cup of tea but to brand minimal as something that can't work on a dancefloor means you're not hearing good minimal! A few weeks ago I heard Richie, Ricardo Villalobos, Magda, Troy Pierce and Marc Houle play for almost 8 hours total in Montreal. I went to go check out the sound on the dancefloor and did not leave for pretty much the entire time! even as my legs were about to give out I found more energy! Never ever have I heard minimal played quite like that, it was just incredible (and this coming from a girl who started off loving the hard techno and nothing else!)
Minimal is not just boom tss boom tss...it is deep and round and sometimes dirty, sometimes melodic, but just makes you want to jack your body on the dancefloor.
I'm gonna go listen to some minimal right now me thinks. |

| mininal is wikkid to listen to at home while chilling or doing stuff around the house ..... but it just don't work for me at the club it's too ... umm i dunno just blah too .... minimal, just don't get my feet movin i feel like siting down and chatting with ppl whenever it's on ..... i dunno it just don't pump me up to get up and dance like house does ( oh btw i'm not a wagon hopper i have been a house snob for years) |
