Much like the bleepy electro sound that took over last year...

I agree that the minimal sound started to take over the same way electro did a year or two ago. It also has the same 'love it' or 'hate it' attitude shared amongst EDM listeners. Though i find lots of this peticular genre quite bland, if you dig enough there are some serious gems out there. I dont think I would really enjoy a full on minimal set for a night out, but when it is placed in a set at the right time and complimented by a variety of sounds - it can be deadly (in a good way of course). |

| Generally, I find the people who turn their nose at minimal are the ones who regularly party with "assistance." |

I like minimal a lot, and have liked it for a couple of years now, but come on Sarah. This is a really snobby comment.
"If you don't like the music I like, you must be on drugs!" |

I don't particularly see "minimal" crossing over as well as electro for a few reasons. The main one for me is that I find it narrowing in terms of DJ compatibility. |

It's funny - I was going to say the exact opposite. |

Agreed, but i guess i was more comparing it in the sense that it seemed to come out of no where - and that EVERY big has incorporated the minimal sound into their sets.
It definately wont cross over as well as electro, due to it's darker and more underground feel - way less mainstream potential is likely the key reason. |

i dunno...i think with any genre popularity ebbs and flows. it just so happens that minimal is the "next big thing" right now (remember prog?), even though it's been around for a while.
i like quite a bit of it, actually. but i don't like music that's really hard and fast, so i find i can get into it very easily. then again, i also don't like a lot of it. as with any genre you've got stuff that's good and stuff that's bad. |

See in my head, a quintessential element of minimal is being slow. lol I don't know . |

I ing hate minimal. What Digweed is starting to spin, Sasha as well, what Trentemoller has moved to, what Burridge is spinning, and the that DJ Vibe spun in two of his May Dancefloor sets that I listened to three times, repeating "no, no, please, NO" before I SHIFT+Delete-ed them.
This genre is going to put the Bloor St. DVP overpass in big business again. I'm going on a cage climb next time I'm subjected to it.
k, I hope that was at least somewhat humorous. I'm not a genre-hater. To each their own. I just won't listen. I just hate when DJs I've liked start spinning I don't like. I was REALLY getting into Lee Burridge last fall, then....POOF. *bleep bleep bleep boop boop bleep*
And when has Lawler ever played a minimal track??
p.s. I haven't done drugs in almost 2 years. |
