Great goal, I guess the keeper could have been a little to the right but I don't think he would have gotten it still, not with the trajectory and pace of it. Rooney was creating havoc the last 30 minutes, looks like he woke up. Gerrard had the bad miss on one pass from him. Still think 2 forwards with Crouch is the way to go or they are going to continue to have trouble scoring.
Nice seeing Posh's when Becks scored. Thanks Becks. |

Terrible game, I nearly slept in the 2nd half.
Either England magically starts performing a lot better, or they're getting knocked out by whoever wins Portugal-Holland. The prospect of a revenge against us could stimulate them, but if they face the dutch (who I do know haven't been great neither) they're not going through. |

| God, what's happening with England these days? Where are the days of attractive, quick pressure football? How can a bunch of highly talented individuals sum up to such a lame team? I really hope for England to be "reborn" on every match of this WC, yet it seems to get only worse. The only highlights were Rooney (a fighter with great technical skills) and Beck's anticipated genious strike. |

| well although we didnt dazzle, Ecuador didnt worry England much in the second half. We generally looked in control and got a professional victory. Rooney, Ashley Cole, Carrick, Gerrard and Lennon all played well. Lampard again was very poor tho so he needs to pull his finger out! |

Another win for England, and that's about it. In what I consider the worst game of the WC, England simply played at the sufficient pace needed to win this game.
Ecuador simply proved what everyone had already been thinking, that group A was by far the weakest group in the competition. Times like these you just wonder how teams like Czech Republic or Ivory Coast got knocked out of the WC and then you see Ecuador... pretty much happy that they only lost 1-0 to England, too mediocre for my taste.
I can not even blame England for not trying harder because if I knew that barely playing football I'd reach quarter finals, I'd do the same as well, saving strengths for the rest of the competition. I'm not saying England will magically win quarter finals vs Portugal-Holland, but England will play a whole different match in quarter finals, no doubts about it. |

I agree. The Ecuadorians played a sloppy and horrible game. They turned over the ball too many times and give up easily. They also appeared very lazy during the 2nd half.
England is also not use to playing in the heat and I would have figured that the Ecudaorian team would have exploited that weakness, but that was not the case.
My last hopes in keeping the cup in South America lies with Brazil and Argentina. Please don't disappoint. |
