but wouldnt that balance out with the welfare bums in your work region?
what about the fact that welfare bums now have as much say as u do? |

I don't think there are any welfare bums on Bay street...but that's not the point.
"each to count for one and none for more than one"
- Jeremy Bentham
I think it works rather well...virtually every adult has the right to vote...but no one has the right for their vote to count for more than that of anyone else.
Under your scenario, a significant minority of welfare/students/retired/whatever people (if organized) could outvote an overwhelming majority, simply by virtue that each of their members' votes couting twice.
that doesn't strike you as ridiculous (and dangerous)? |

they already do outvote the majority.
Look at all the SIGs out there hijacking the agenda already. Whats dangerous is the suburbanization of downtown toronto that is being orchestrated by the unfair weight of power in the hands of condo developers and owners.
My idea would help alleviate that and balance it out. As it is, something needs to be done about this problem. |

so you'd rather see a minority of welfare and EI recipients, students and homemakers vs. developers and condo owners?
I don't think ANY minority being "in control" is a good thing...shifting the power from one group to another solves little.
you're entitled to your opinions...but I trust that few people of any consequence in the academic or political spheres would agree that your idea of multiple votes would solve anything and wouldn't cause more harm than good.
Is there even an example of this model being currently employed anywhere? I'm not prepared to see Toronto pioneer that little experiment...
but why not run that idea by some political science profs and politicians...I'd love to hear their replies. |

Apparently Adelaide/Richmond used to be two way streets a long time ago.
We need more 2 way streets running east and west and possibly one running north and south. youd be amazing at how fast you can get from bathurst to parliament going down down adelaide and vice versa. on long weekends or boat cruise days you can zip across the whole city in less than 10mins and with help by fellow green lights.
i was recently in new york and its all one way streets... more than montreal. and the traffic although very congested is a totally different kinda of traffic than here in toronto. its a stop go style here opposed to stop because of a red light in new york. the traffic flow there i found to be more logical given the amount of vehicles on the road.
one addition of one way streets east-west and north to south can really help the traffic problems in toronto. |

God dammit Jay!!!
And one other thing...
I like condos. I like a downtown full of tall buildings...
I love the look of New York...
Plus, a healthy condo market pays my bills so I'm a little split on this whole issue... |
