I met DevanteS online a few years back and I must say that his joy for trance was pretty lackluster back then. But now, not only is he a trance guru, but a devoted fan. He reminds me of what trance does for me, how it lifts me to another world and overwhelms me. To some, trance makes them cry while for others, it helps them relax. For me, trance is my outlet away from my life when it’s not going well and other times, trance is my source of happiness and jubilation no matter what my situation or mood. Trance is significant and meaningful to DevanteS because he is able to bridge that gap between emotions and music and it was easier for him to do that when his friend passed away. I am glad you found comfort in trance Devantes and I wish many others would give trance a chance to drown away their sorrow and anger.
Answer to your question:
Trance has definitely evolved through the years with the introduction of many types of trance (i.e progressive, ambient, epic, melodic etc.). However, no matter what else it evolves to, we will always love it for what it truly is, and I think you guys know exactly what I mean. I do agree that trance is the ultimate evolution of music NOW, in it’s current makeup, but as trance evolves, I don’t know if it would be then. I’m don’t know if I am making any sense, and frankly, it’s really all subjective. There are some trance tracks out there that I think is the supreme evolution of music, but then I think about what it might become and then I’m not too sure anymore. I am a trance fanatic but I have to be open minded when asked a question like this. When you think about the roots of trance and where trance came from, I realize that the ultimate evolution of music is plainly electronic music. Because although I love trance and everything it has to offer, I am open to all types of electronica and I appreciate every element/aspect of it. To love trance is to also appreciate techno which leads me to appreciate everything else (house, techno, garage) that make up electronic music.

I agree with each and everyone of you. I may not post that much on this board but i felt compelled to reply to this thread.

Lemme try to shed some light on what trance means to me. Many times people ask me, " why do you listen to that music? its all the same. just boom boom boom." I find myself looking at them with one brow lifted as if to say, "wat the??" Then i try my best to explain to them wat it is about trance that appeals to me. I tell them... if all you hear is the bass then you're missing wat makes trance special, the melody. It's not like hip hop where its all bout the bass. It is the emotion latent within the music which makes trance special. It is the bridge between music and emotion.

As with alot of you, trance, for me is an escape from the troubles in the world. I close my eyes and go on a journey laid out by the waves of notes that trance is. I was going through a rough time in my life back in '97. That summer, my friend gave me this cd with assorted songs. One of those songs was Out of the Blue. Even tho this song has no words, when the melody hit, it spoke out to me as if saying "Dont worry... everything will be ok. Have hope." I listened to this song day and night. Then in that same summer, i went to my first party and PvD was gonna spin. I knew nuthing bout trance. That night I became a loyal follower of the trance culture. I had the best nite of my life.As i listened to more and more trance i realized something. Trance is music at the most basic emotional level. It is raw untainted emotion as i like to put it. With other music, often times there are lyrics, words that must be understood in order for the listener to feel wat the artist is feeling. Someone in africa will not understand a hip hop song unless they understand english. However, trance defies this cultural barrier. It does not require spoken language to be understood. It is universal. Someone in china will feel the same emotion coming from a track as someone in germany or amsterdamn or london. How else can you explain why millions of ppl who have never met each other refer to PvD , tiesto, AvB, Ferry, or any particular Dj as GOD? It is because these ppl have that emotional bond which Trance brings to all.

I know im just rambling on... but there's too many reasons why i love trance :)

Im glad there are some ppl out there who understand how i feel :)

Take care all you TAs and if you guys want to talk gimme a holler on AIM. Always happy to meet new trance fanatics.

That about sums up why trance is more to us than just music. It's our life.

We have a beliver. All the comments you have made are very very true , i think trance is more like an religon that a trend of music, Imagine pop music in another 5 years ? jesus it wil be the same 5 boy band members singing the same old crap in a recorded studio with too much Gel on.

<^<^ lol @ that pic of Paul in your avatar ... yeah I hear you guys about the feeling you get from trance when you listen - and how you notice that other people listening to other types of music seem to lack that emotional bond with say, hip-hop, pop or metal. Halcyon rocks -- just a tad behind my favorite Bracegirdle-tune >> Autumn Tactics (Original). THAT will make you shed a tear of joy!
