Americans need to give up their guns (pg. 2)

Because I live in NYC, not here, but I own guns at my parents. None of mine are handguns, but my dad has a few.

I notice that the person who said they're pointless is from Jersey. I think guns in NYC are pointless, too, but that doesn't apply to the rest of the country.

I'm actually going home this weekend and looking forward to spending some time on the shooting range.

I like the fact that I can own a gun. If someone breaks into my house, I can blow their ing head off. :happy2:

seriously when some piece of thinks he can come into your home and take what isn't his/hers or try to inflict pain or harm to you and your family, you dont think it's fair that you put a bullet in them?

i'll be damned if anyone ever tries to rape me or break into my home and i have a loaded gun. i'm sorry, but he's screwed...and rightfully so. lol

I read a few days back that a burglar was suing the guy where he broke in because he caught him outside his house (and not inside). The disgusting part is that he'll probably win the case.

Which country is it?

If someone points a gun at me for money, I would just give him all money I have instead of acting stupid and try to knock him down.

I live in a town with a very high crime, poverty, and unemployment rate, protection is definately needed. In my opinion, you can deter a person with other things beside guns.

Not many people in the US hunt for their own food anymore, and if they do, they don't NEED to. They could just go to the store, but they like hunting, so that's what they do.

That's completely not true. If you'd just look at the number of hunting licenses sold in this country, you'd realize that. In Pennsylvania alone, there were 1 million hunting licenses sold in 2004 (sorry, don't have last year's numbers on-hand).

You usually can't go to the store and buy game animals, either. Even if you find venison that's farm raised (not very common), it's really fatty compared to what you get from wild ones. That's because the wild ones actually exercise and the meat's lean.

Even if you don't care about the health aspect of the meat, the other reason that hunting is needed is for population control. Can you imagine if they completely banned deer hunting in Pennsylvania, even for a year? There's usually between 350,000-500,000 deer shot per year. Imagine if those live and the females all have 1-2 fawns. Then think about how many human traffic fatalities are going to occur as a result of those increased numbers.

Lastly, on the protection issue, which isn't really what I'm targeting, because that's the last reason of three that my family owns guns (hunting, target shooting, and protection), what other deterrants do you plan to use?

This may be the native american in me talking, but, humans are the ones increasing in population. We are the ones over-populating the land. In new jersey we have a deer "Problem" but thats because we crowded this ing state. Deer aren't growing in numbers.

Words, and then grapple moves if necessary. A swift kick in the nuts might work.

Not going to disagree with you on us overpopulating the planet, but it's not even population. It's our entire way of life. Cars and deer don't play well together, whether there's 280 million in this country or 28 million. Lastly, if you think we're overpopulating, shouldn't you want guns, as it does, as horrible as it sounds, keep our population lower?
