Why is Paul Oakenfold so popular?! (pg. 2)

I think Spad hit it right on the sopt with his comments; I was reading and nodding to every word of it.
Paul Oakenfold is respected as a DJ; not just a trance DJ. While others have stuck to trance (banging or not; mainstream or not), Oakie has moved on. He's always going to be one step ahead of the pack in the business. You cannot argue the fact that he practically introduced trance to Europe. And you cannot deny that some of his sets are legendary (Live at Lotherton Hall @ Crasher; Live at Rojam in Shanghai, and his now-worshipped GU007).
In all honesty, just because he has stopped 1. spinning frequently in the UK and 2. spinning trance day in day out doesn't make him less of a DJ than Tiesto or PvD. Oakenfold is, in my opinion, still the best DJ in Europe (and possibly the world). |

| imo, oakie has just been around a long time most likely a decade, not sure exactly. In that time he has been all over the world getting his name in areas where people might of heard of him, but not heard him play. His tracks are unique like somebody said up there. Thats probably why he got so damn good. Not because people liked the unique stuff he played it was more so because he knew how to read the crowd. Like any good dj does. |

i dont care if Oakie is spinning right now, either way i wud still luv to see him live any day, coz he's always makes a journey through trance and he is STILL the living trance legend...so um ya TA's, get your together and dont make silly stupid threads like this...WHY IS OAKIE SPINNING CRAP? TIESTO VS. OAKIE...those kind of threads, just plz TA's think first and they say it out loud ;) |

oakenfold is a wanker. any dj shud be stoned in public for dumping his style in the search for a more profitabel one.

Oftentimes, people in a certain movement need to create an idol figure for themselves.
With all due respect, PO happened to be in the right place at the right time. He was chosen as the idol figure.
The truth is that regardless of what you say about PO's innovations, Trance would have continued to develop and grow just fine without him. Do you know, for example, what kind of a Trance scene they have in Germany, and how many talented artists are there? Just one example.
Finally, yes, I agree, that the tracks he chooses are boring... |

i dont know why you all even bother bitching about oakie going commercial.. i still love his older sets and most of his albums are sweet too! hes was and still is IMO an amazing DJ and has done so mujch stuff to promote trance all over the world. hell, he was the guy who got me into it.. either way, whether you like him or not, at least repect the guy.

| I totally agree that Paul Oakenfold sucks and is overrated. He can't mix, can't pick tunes, can't work the crowd... at least he couldn't when I saw him here. Prolly the most overrated DJ. and he's a in pratt! He had his jacket on and ready to go before his last record was finished... and he didn't have another gig to play. He just wanted to leave the party that bloody fast. Buuuut... I do have major respect for him as how he has pushed the scene. And I love his productions... SOUTHERN SUN!!! |

wierd, i saw him twice in the last 6 months or so and both times he left and then came back and kept spinning.. he was cool as hell with those two crowds.. one of the parties, after he left for a second time, he came back AGAIN and spun a few more tracks.. it was great! plus he stayed and talked to a few of us afterwards and .
