I have nothing but respect for the man. Tranceport was the first trance CD I bought and it really introduced me to the scene. His EM World Tour in 99 is still the source of some of the best live sets of all time. Just because he is changing his style and experimenting does not mean he sucks. IMO people who criticize him now are just bandwagon-jumping hypocrits who bash Oakenfold because he is so popular now (How many criticized him back in 98/99/00). |
Okay, your comment is completely wrong.
By criticizing Oakenfold I am not BY ANY STRETCH OF IMAGINATION trying to be "cool" or jumping on the bandwagon.
But let's face the facts, Oakenfold may have been influential in the U.S. but then how much work did he have to do to "show Americans the light," as many zealots would say? I argue that America itself had become ready for the new wave of music at that time. All he did was release an obvious collection (obvious for '98). Suddenly everyone started putting him on the pedestal, after Tranceport.
But we're forgetting something here. The world does not revolve around Oakenfold, or the U.S., or Britain for that matter. Techno-Dance and Trance is a genre of continental Europe, which grew out of the heart of Europe and its Dance-NRG. This dance style has always been popular, and constantly develops, in places like Germany, Holland, Denmark, Eastern Europe (Poland, Russia), Italy. I believe that even if there were never such a figure as Oakenfold, electronic dance music would have been alive and well now!
Okay, flame me. But I still think PO is overrated. |

Perhaps I should make myself more clear. People who sit around and post things like 'Oakenfold sucks he is crap' etc ... and have no reason are bandwagon jumpers. If you have a legitimate reason for saying he sucks, and explain it, fine.
Why do you think that post was directed at you anyways? |

here me out right now, whoever that person is to supply a pic of Oakenfold to the guy at bbc to make a stupid childish joke like that...YOUR A TOTAL EN LOSER WHO DOESN'T ABOUT TRANCE!
seriously that little joke wasn't funny at all and a lot of peeps i know were really pissed and stressing last night...first time when i saw it i felt tears in my eyes :(:(
i dont care if Oakie is spinning right now, either way i wud still luv to see him live any day, coz he's always makes a journey through trance and he is STILL the living trance legend...so um ya TA's, get your together and dont make silly stupid threads like this...WHY IS OAKIE SPINNING CRAP? TIESTO VS. OAKIE...those kind of threads, just plz TA's think first and they say it out loud ;) | well said....i can finally admit....that oakenfold and tiesto are in two different subgenres of trance....
tiesto is still leading the way for the convergence of progressive and trance.....he is mixing the flavors of uplifting with progressive...its good...since as along as it has uplifting i love it.
oakenfold is going into the breakbeat/trance/chill zone...its good...
as long as its good...i love it.....now all the TAs talking mess..go back to ur room and listen to dj alligator or dj jean. |

His set @ Austin 2001, ROCKED!!!! Flow baby, and his October @ the NEC set was so so... I Really enjoyed Amoeba Assassin - Piledrive [Grayed Out Summer Mix].
So, trance maybe would evolve without Oakenfold... BUT how 'bout Perfecto?! No Jan Johnston! Uh buhu!! :( [Ps. Will Southern Sun also be released under Perfecto?]
So some of you don't even respect him a little? heads... |
