this is true but classics are still largely subjective. a die-hard trance fan circa 1992 could probably put forward a compelling argument as to why the tunes of his era deserve classic status more than those of the 'armin era', but what would be the use? the target audience of a cd like this would probably shun them as outdated, boring, and bearing scarce resemblence to the kind of trance they know |

I would say people so close-minded have no authority to call anything classic then. |

having a negative opinion isn't being close-minded
again, subjective. one man's classic is another man's dusty outdated blueprint. just as one man's classic is another man's generic throwaway pop tune. my point is that trance has been segregated into seperate scenes for christ knows how long now and each have their own history with their own classics... not all will agree with eachother and it's pointless preaching from one to another about what their most idolised tunes should be |

As much as I get disgusted from as the rush comes, it is (or shall be) considered as a classic (sooner or later).
Maybe it is sad yes; but every major trance jock spun it and everyone knows the track; so yeah, it's a classic. |

There will always be differing opinions on what qualifies as classic, but I'd agree with System-J that people must have an informed knowledge of the genre before they are qualified to engage in that debate. Someone for whom As The Rush Comes is an "old" track really has no business saying what's classic in trance or progressive as a whole.
Moreover, what gets billed as "classic" since 1999 has as much (or more) to do with marketing as it does with how good or memorable a given production is. For this reason alone, anything deemed classic in the past seven years deserves great scrutiny in such a label. |

I'm not saying they're correct. I'm saying their opinion is more valid.

Not automatically no, but that isn't what you said. You said they'd discard these tracks because they're outdated and scarcely familiar. How exactly can a classic be outdated? And if someone discards something because it isn't familiar, then they're being close-minded. How the will they ever expand their tastes if they discount anything unfamiliar? |

| Heh, this is pretty funny. You all seem to debate about what defines a Trance classic, but all I can think of is that the classics I know have all been received well by the Trance fans. Tunes like 'Seven Cities', 'Club Attack' etc. etc. IMO there hasn't ever been a debate about tunes like these. Nope, these tracks were instant classics and nobody thought otherwise. It seems that there are certain gradations now for tracks to be considered as a classic, if you know what I mean. |
