her tunes are totally crap. Never heard a single listen worthy tune from her.

Agreed... although Promiscuous Girl isn't necessarily too bad. I quite enjoy it myself, but all the credit IMO goes to Timbaland and Timbaland only. Had he chosen a different artist to collaborate with, specifically a decent R&B vocalist instead of a pop tart singer, then it would be a totally different song. Suffice to say I was quite suprised to learn this was indeed a Nelly Furtado song when it came out. But then whenever I hear that god awful song "I'm Like A Bird", it instantly reminds me again of how ty her voice and music really are.

Oh, speaking of another pop-suddenly-turned-hiphop abombination would be Christina Aguilera and her new song. Her voice is just downright bad for any type of hiphop.

That's certainly open for interpretation there.

I understand the criticism, because I thought the same thing until I bought her third album. I was reluctant to buy it because it didn't sound the same as her first, and the second one wasn't as good IMO, but it's not music to be taken seriously. It's not like this super sophisticated, deep philosophic music. It's just quirky and fun party music, with a few slower stuff mixed in. It's not really R&B at all, she's not really trying to sound R&B. Maybe a little like Janet Jackson or Madonna at points but those were some of her influences, what she was into growing up besides rap, folk and house.

She's just updated her sound some. You can't expect her stuff to sound exactly like it did on the first. Artists grow, and I understand her new sound has changed due to her new producer being Timbaland. But she wanted to make a hip-hop/dance album inspired by her times clubbing. She's always been into hip hop and she was doing what she grew up with (hip hop). I've read/seen plenty of interviews with her and she's said that, even when she was big with her first album she said she wanted to someday do a hip hop/dance record. She wasn't expecting the sound in her first album to be her only sound.

And her voice really isn't ty (although that is up to interpretation too). On her first record it was a little bit on the annoying side sometimes, I admit, but if you actually listen to her new album you can hear that her voice has matured a lot. And you could tell on her second album it was starting to mature. Not every singer, just like not every actor, is going to be perfect starting out. But she still won Grammy's, and became popular. Sorry she's not trance or Juno Reactor or any of that stuff, thought having a variety of music was good....oh and she is hawt but that's not the only reason I like her ;).

Ok, I'm not sure what prompted this, but when has anyone ever said anything close to this? Some people (like myself) simply don't like her music like you do, but that doesn't mean you should stop enjoying it and that those people are close-minded like you suggest.

You know, I never know what to make of your comments like this because you always act like you are the only person who is into certain things while everyone else can't possibly understand what it is you do or what it is you like. Seriously, just c'mon now.

See I don't expect people to like what I like. That's not what i'm saying. But people should have some respect and not be so closed minded that if a suggestion isn't "trance" or whatever. A year ago, I would probably only suggest trance since I was in a trance rut, but in the past 6 months i've resorted back to stuff that isn't trance, shied away from it. And now that i'm branching out, into stuff I used to like and still enjoy. And I don't like being critized on here, just like I was in high school for liking or not liking something. It's kind of the "damn if you do" and "damned if you don't" type of attitude I get from people, not just on TA. But I admit to bringing it out on here often, because I experience here as well.

It's like I'll like something different, and then someone things it's not different enough. Or people will say your closed minded and then I say something or give them an example of something I like which isn't, from artists who aren't closed minded musically or writers, thinkers or whoever who aren't, and then people think even that's not enough. It's like people will say to me "your not loose enough, or happy enough" or "you need to have fun" and then when I do, I get labeled "immature", "stupid", "an idiot" and then I'm forced to act serious so I don't get viewed as that. Believe me, this is nothing new with me, been happening since elementary school. I'm not perfect, I admit. Maybe I just try too hard to "fit in" because i've never "fit in" with anyone. Even when I be myself. I guess you could say i'm too possessive of the stuff I like because I attach those things to me. So certain singers, producers, DJs, writers, actors etc, I like, and someone doesn't, I feel like they are saying something about me. Maybe it's because I'm used to people picking on me in the past for things I liked, or didn't like, as I said.
Spirit5
I actually credit TA and TAs with getting me into stuff I haven't listened to and actually shying me away from trance music. I'm not saying I've done it neccessarily to fit in but from the stuff people have said and shared and talked about, it's lead me in some new directions. So I don't think being on TA is a bad thing. In a way i've tried to fit in on here, just like in real life. People have told me to branch out, people have made comments that have shied me away from some of the stuff i've liked. I know that sounds pathetic but if people would just respect each other's right to like what they like without hurling insults at them, then maybe I wouldn't write long passages and act the way I do on here.

I am sorry for making a big deal out of this but i've explain enough why I do this and I'm aware of it. I try to do my best to make conversations civil and intelligent and not insulting people for their likes or dislikes. But I do admit to judging people just like they judge me. I guess it's a two way street. The whole "puke inducing" thing I guess set me off, but I admit to probably taking it too seriously. But see like I told you, I take those comments as insults to me for some reason. I guess I am just sick of being criticized and harrased throughout my life...over many things (height...being too short, weight..being too skinny, my interests, who I talked to, who I didn't talk to, how I act, in sports...in theater, in school/class), and it isn't all constructive criticism either.

I even told you I understood the criticism, I actually tried to agree with you in some points. So I wasn't saying you were wrong and I was right. I am sorry for making that judgement about Rebel9 but from what he said, it really sounded closed minded to me, and i've had many arguments before with him over stupid stuff. I guess I prefer having civil discussions and intelligent debates on here rather than being insulted while trying to engage in those and get my point across while being insulted as I have before. Even in threads I never meant to into arguments and insult fests, hence why I hardly make threads on here and most I delete when people start acting like s.
Spirit5
Maybe if more people on TA actually respected each other more and stopped insulting each other all the time and getting into arguments all the time, sometimes over stupid stuff, then this place would be much better place. That's my biggest problem on here. I've said i'de join another forum where maybe I would get more respect for my view points or respect just as a person/contributor, but I've already established myself and have met people on here who I talk to on IM. I admit to making a big deal out of somethings and getting into some stupid arguments. But at least give me some credit for contributing, trying to have civil and intelligent debates and even giving people another point of view on things, as well as branching out into other music, such as house, jazz, rock, breaks, ambient, singer-songwriter/pop stuff and other stuff other than trance, which I've liked heavily for the past 6 years. I mean maybe i'm just looking for a little respect, and if I don't get any, then maybe i'll leave for good. That's all I ever ask...The problem isn't whether or not someone likes Nelly Furtado or not, I don't care, the problem is with respect, I don't feel I get any on here (or other people), no matter what I do or say. So i'm taking my frusturation with that this way...that's the real reason for this I admit.
