Look at the pricetag, holy . |
and ya know something, the release of this wont drop the price of the DVJ X1 an inch, at least for the next 4-6 months, even after that, its still gonna be a miniscule drop
watching the video remix for take the lead by DJ2ndnature, we can see (if you're familiar with a traditional CDJ) the functionality of Hot cue, tempo, Vinyl Mode, Master tempo (for locking the pitch), awesome stuff, absolutely awesome stuff, watch sensation white 2004 you can see a few DJ's who actually use it, like Sander, and i think Morillo, (though Erick may just be using it for music), you also see marco V use it in sensation white '05 when he plays more than a life away...
whats next on these great DVJ Players...it wouldnt surprise me if on a Mark II model they gave the user ability to change things like brightness, color, contrast, hue, etc...or even independantly adjustable R,G,& B levels... |

ah, so thats how they synced up the lyrics on the big screens with the music. Now it makes sense. |

DJ 2nd Natures a kewl dood. He's probaby the best VJ at this time. |
Nah not at all... yeah he plays around and it's quite cool, but as far as event VJing goes, it's nothing really worth watching cos it is just premade videos cut together and mixed as if they were tunes, not a the great graphical display you get from "proper" VJs.
One of the big touring teams like Hexstatic (maybe not specifically them, they were just one that came to mind, but there are a few groups around) I'd say are more worthy of that title... they don't tend to just use DVJ's, like Rich says - computer based software with a set of purpose-built midi controllers will give you much more control and a much larger scope of what's possible. |

a lot of people need to realise that a lot of technology released isn't meant for the bedroom consumer
it's meant for the professionals in the industry who work with this stuff on almost a daily basis
i know when i was a VJ i would've loved to use this
hell, even now i wouldn't mind using this to incorporate that visual element into my sets
give the crowd more stimulation than just music |

| what i don't understand is why do people think that a visual element is needed in a club or party...when i am enjoying myself at a club or party i tend to be focusing on the girls and nothing else really...at a bar or concert i can see how this can be worthy but i don't understand why clubs would implement a video element... |
|

| Greedy |
| cuz girls like finer detail like that actually, and without girls, you wouldnt have anything to look at would u. |

Cos it really adds loads of atmosphere... you could go one step further and say "what's the point in lighting effects: strobes, scanners, etc" and it's the same.
Really good visuals are really good to get lost in while you're dancing away and can work really well with the music when done right. If it carries the event's branding in some way it can help to give the night more of an identity too.
When I saw the Chemical Brothers live at the end of last year, it really wouldn't have been anywhere near as good without the screens up everywhere with visuals in time to the music... they had a kinda light ambient section before star guitar with an awesome view over Barcelona at dawn on the screens, then as it was building up before the beat came in the sun started rising, which with 7 screens on stage flooded the room with yellows and oranges, along with the picture itself, which really set the mood perfectly and got everyone smiling and starting to move, then the whole crowd rocked straight away when the beat came in... wouldn't have had the same effect at all without it. THAT'S what it's all about.
Obviously that's all part of a pre-rehearsed tour, but good club VJs can make the visuals fit just as well and have similar effects. |
