August 2006 Mix
(right-click, save as..)
Ok here we go again folx. My latest is apon us and I must say (like always really) that I am very proud of the finished product. A bit different format this time. I knew from the begining that this wasn't going to be a 1 CD project but it was a later decision that I made that it was to be really one long mix. Up til' this point I have been concerned with containing the mix on a cd (or two). But this time it really didn't work out that way. In concept it's a one continuous 2 hour mix, but I have provided some options for downloading as you'll see below. The name, Incalescent, means "growing hotter and more ardent", which is a perfect description because that's what this mix was meant to do. Start eerie, stay light then move into more emotional and energetic tracks. Growing hotter and hotter and never letting up! :D The recent heat wave may have something to do with that. Or the fact that I saw 'An Inconvenient Truth' recently and it made an impact. Anyway yes the format is a bit differen't but it's the concept I am most proud of, or at least my attempt. What I wanted to do was contain within a mix a very broad selection of tracks from differen't genres and styles. That part isn't exactly new for me but what is new is my determination to make it flow and progress almost unnoticably. Basically to make all the great tracks work well together and flow. I think I did a pretty decent job but I would def like to hear from you guys about it.
Incalescent Demo

EDIT: Oliver Huntemann - 37 Degrees :eyes: tune!!! Heard this out before, quality tune :D
Wicked mix mate (again!) jus listened to it all the way thru. Loved the start and the end was quality, some of them tunes would sound amazin on a club system. Set was planned well, and mixin was spot on as expected.
Good Effort mate, lookin forward to the next one :) |

Nope I'll give you a hint. It's from a 1980's sci-fi movie. Another hint may come as this may be a bit obscure. :toothless |

Thanks. Yes 37 Degrees is such a wicked one. I personally only have heard it once in M.I.K.E.'s mix for ASOT 250. Which was a killer set btw. Anyway thanks a ton for listening and your comments. Much appreciation. :)
I thought I'd post this for those that it may interst. It's from my site.
| quote: | Ok so I'm going to sort of discect my mix here and discuss the tracks. This is by no means an attempt to be prettentious and tell you how much my mix rocks. It's more of a way for me to reflect and sort of schematisize what I have done. Plus I have something to say about every track almost.
Intro track:
1. Ellen Allien & Apparat - Rotary
Really was the birth of the concept when I heard this track. Or at least the introduction of the dillemma, lol. I knew after hearing this track that I'd have a lot of work to do if I wanted to include it and materialize the concept which it brought about. Anyway this track is ing KILLER. Seriously such a beautiful melody with a unique foundation. I love Ellen Allien and the latest album with Apparat is the best yet with Rotatry being my favorite.
Section 1: Melodic House
2.Boom Jinx - Come Play Perfect (Original Mix)[edit]
3.Jaytech - Genesis (Original Mix)
I call these tracks melodic house but I'm not really sure if that's correct. Anyway this section I wanted to have light melodies and housey organic feelings. I've known about Boom Jinx for a while but just recently have I fell in love with his tallent. Jaytech has always been one of my favorite up and coming producers. Especially after hearing his remix of Lens - Let the Light In. One of my all time favs.
Section 2: House
4.Paolo Mojo - 1983 (Eric Prydz Remix)[edit]
5.Oliver Huntemann - 37 Degrees
6.John Digweed - Warung Beach (Original mix)
7.GTR - Cops (Original Mix)
This secition is simplified by house because it is centered in house. It's tracks reach from electro to tech to progressive house. And the last track here, Cops, is actually classified as trance but it's got an obviously heavily housey feel. Ok I know Prydz mix of 1983 is being whored the hell out of but I didn't care. I love the sound. I like Aftermath, but not quite as much as this track. It has more meat imo. Ofcourse I edited it down from it's mamoth 12 min size so it seem less stagnant and doesn't kill the flow at this point. Would have been ok to keep it that long as a peak but not here. 37 degrees is a mean track. Soo ing awesome, can say enought good things about Oliver Huntemann. Wanted to use other tracks of his like, "50.1", or "Cracker Capers" would've fit ok, but this was the best track hands down. At first I didn't think much of Warung Beach, but then after a couple listens I was really wowed by it's unique and intriging melody. It fit the style I wanted perfectly and sounds soooo good after 37 Degrees. Cops blends really well with Warung while getting the listener ready for trancyer elements perfectly. A killer track with an eighties, sci-fi theme that is exactly what I wanted in this mix.
Section 3: Prog Trance
8.Seroya - Beautiful (Noel Sanger Mix)
9.Shiloh - Dream On (Luke Chable Remix)
10.Corydalics - Along Overmind (Sied van Riels Diet Coke on the Rocks mix)
11.Stalker - Magic Crayons (Maor Levi Remix)
12.Hammer & Funabashi - Moments (Thomas Penton Remix)
Some excellent proggressive sounds here starting with Noels excellent mix of Dream On. Noel has a talent for remixing vocal tracks. Actually he has major tallent all around. One of my favorite nights out was seeing him before Mistress Barbara. Luke's epic mix of Dream On moves the curve towards trance beautifully and is an awe-inspiring track. Sounds similar to his mix of Petter - These Days a bit, but is a bit more refined and full imo. Sied van Riel's remix here is a wonderful techy prog track that moves the mix into more emotional territory. And here's Maor's mix of Magic Crayons. Best version of the track by far imo but just didn't flow as well in my previous mix so I thought it def could hurt anything to have it here; it fitting perfectly here and all. Thomas Penton's Mix of Moments is also the best version which is suprising as I'm a huge fan of Hammer & Funabashi colaborations. This track is excellent transition track with more energetic trance feel with awesome techy elements.
Section 4: Tech Trance
13.Filterheadz - Medellin
14.The Teachers - Wanna B (Ernesto vs Bastian Dub)
15.Patrick Markus - Silence and Motion (Sassot Digital Tech Remix)
16.Lost in Gravity - Hide And Seek (Original Mix)
17.Stoneface and Terminal - Sidewinder (Original mix)
Some of these towards the last part are less tech but it's what I wanted for this portion. I wanted to move from prog trance into tech trance because I think it actually flows better than going from prog to epic to tech. This way the energy builds awesomely and you don't peak with the epic too soon. Awesome tracks here Lost in Gravity's Hide and Seek being one my fav of this bunch. Sidewinder is also wicked even though a bit old from last year. Sorry if some think it's tired.
Section 5: Epic Trance
18.Menno de Jong, Leon Bolier, Solar Express - Magma (Original Mix)
19.Niklas Harding & Redshift - Pagoda (Original mix)
20.Modulation - White Flame (Miika Kuisma dub)
Three excellent epic trance tracks which are designed to peak the mix. Magma is supposed to transion away from the tech feel and add an emotional injection that gets you almost anticipating the peak. Pagoda is the peaking track for the mix and it does oh so wonderful a job imo. It may not seem as powerful or as energetic as you might think a peaking track for this mix should be, but what it lacks in energy it makes up for in sheer boldness. I've actually been waiting through two previous mixes on this track for the right time to add this in and it's fate has brought it here. I end with the epic dub mix of White Flame from Miika Kuisma. Miika has become one of my favorite producers very quickly over the last year and he hasn't let up. This track has so much emotion and quality as well as having so many different breakdowns, builds and bass elements. It was the absolute perfect track to encore and resolve the mix with.
Ok, whew. Might as well publish a novel, geezus. Well it helps me flesh out my concept and if you read it I hope you can use the info to understand what I was trying to do and if you feel like it you can give me better feed back as a result! |
