it costs the military an average of $38,000 to recruit and train a replacement.

 that's annual salary for many !

Speaking of salaries, how much do the lowest ranked soldiers earn ? Are they paid extra if ordered to go and fight in Iraq,Afghanisthan ? The risk of stepping on a landmine there is certainly more than for soldiers who are back home.

Good. Perhaps people are reaizing that the reasoning behind the sham of a war is invalid and wrong.

You just went flying past the point. Wrong debate.

I would normally agree with Theresa but these arent soldiers who were drafted in the service. They enlisted voluntarily and understood the risks involved. Now when something they don't like happens they just get up and leave? That's pathetic

THe glamor is certainly there when you see american soldiers fighting high tech wars in movies. but when it comes to ground reality, things are not as interesting as they seem on TV :nervous:

That is at least far closer to the point.

One could make the case, though, that even when drafted, you have enlisted voluntarily, but I'll leave that alone for now.

I would respect the entire population of the U.S. a BAGIJILLION times more if they were to fight against their ty government, and I think it would make the rest of the world realize that it isn't the citizens of the U.S. that suck monkey balls, it's the creepo in charge.

Its about that time, eh chap?

What landmine? There is no landmine, this is not Africa. Iraqies succesfully hunt them down one by one. Snip them up, RPG them, Greanade them up.

With that said, I really don't think a lot of these young kids going into the army really realize what they are getting into. Not to mention, I think a lot of them are going into it solely for the money, not to fight for some B.S. war.

lowest ranking soldiers, E-1, earn 1273.50/month. deployment in a war zone means hazardous duty pay, and imminent danger pay, so someone right out of boot camp into the fray will get about 1500/mo.
